Parrish & Heimbecker Opening @ Pier 10 / Aug 4

P&H Press Release:

Grain Storage Domes Open With Room To Grow

August 3, 2011 Hamilton, ON – Twin storage domes capable of housing more than 60,000 tonnes of agricultural product are set to boost grain volumes in the Port of Hamilton as Parrish and Heimbecker (P&H) mark the opening of the new terminal on Pier 10. The terminal will be a primary centre for P&H to move grains and other agricultural commodities. Transportation and farming industry representatives will participate in a grand opening celebration tomorrow at the terminal, Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina and other special guests are expected to attend.

The specialized floor conveyor system is an integral part of the terminal design and will dramatically increase loading and discharge speed for trucks, rail cars and ships making the terminal one of the most modern on the Great Lakes. P&H will host a special opening event for customers and new users of the terminal tomorrow.

The 90 x 190 foot domes have the flexibility to handle protein meals, sugar, salt and granular fertilizer in addition to the traditional coarse grains that move through the port. Emerging global markets can be serviced through our Hamilton terminal that is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the regions rich agricultural production. "The Port of Hamilton made strategic sense for this development," said Parrish and Heimbecker director eastern Canadian grain operations Robert Bryson. “The established volumes of ship traffic allow our operation to connect to the efficient shipping opportunities at the port.” Overseas traffic is critical to supporting growth of both import and export cargo volumes.

In addition to terminal assets and capacity, P&H offer third party logistics services and can customize freight transfer between modes. The terminal has direct access to marine, road and rail including full Seaway draft, 25 unit rail car capacity and truck scale staging in the fully secured facility.
