I like your longer running vids....looks like the south side of barry shy's conversion proj next to the ace hotel has been given a final coat of paint....the part around 1:28 captures what was once the main impression that ppl had when wandering through too many sections of dtla.....& not in a way that city leaders would be happy about.

that's why all the new devlpt is so long overdue. Finally!! is the main reaction I have when seeing the ongoing changes.

this putdown....attributed to a comment that a well known writer said about a visit to oakland yrs ago....really did apply to dtla too in the past....

What a fascinating young man.
The others that you mention are brainless animals--this man is an artist--perhaps a genius.

Very cool. The only worry is that someday hopefully a tower is built in the empty lot below. It will end up covering part, if not all of the mural.

These Broadway theaters could totally be used for the LA Film Festival, too, if restored and modern projection equipment were installed.
I know I can’t speak for all millennials, but I can definitely appreciate the full restoration of ornate gems like these (even if they don’t posess high ceilings, exposed brick, hidden speakeasies, etc.)

After all true beauty is more than just a facade... case in point: Grove, A@B, Main St USA, etc etc.

I would certainly love an organization such as The American Cinemateque to restore a theater on Broadway and play revivalist films, just as they have done so with The Egyptian in Hollywood. Unfortunately, many of these organizations are non profit, and lack the funds to begin such a costly capital project. Anyone know any wealthy people who can be encouraged to donate?

Its bad already. 376 live/work units, some retail....800 parking spaces?? And being over 7 stories, doesn't that mean it will have to be steel construction? Its just annoying, especially when compared to what was originally proposed there. For a lot that size, not enough units at all.

The Circa webcam is back up! I drove past it on the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the podium grille; I had only had the chance to see it via the webcam and was originally disappointed by the transparency, but when you approach the project from the north, the individual grilles hide the structure like in the renderings. Will wait to see how this one turns out.

The scaffolding for the cantilever at Oceanwide Plaza is incredible and is something you don't see everyday. Also, great pics Hunter!

How did it look from other angles?

Big news for the Broadway theaters - a new touring version of Hair will have a two month run at the Palace Theatre! As far as I'm aware, this is the first time a broadway-style production has run in one of our Broadway theaters (at least in modern times). Hopefully it's a huge success and producers take notice. It would be awesome to see the Palace, Orpheum, United Artists, State, and Million Dollar Theaters (after Cobird leaves) consistently activated with broadway shows.

This is great. Cleaning up Broadway totally will change the atmosphere of DTLA. That and renovating Pershing Square.

A bit off topic, but has there ever been any talk of developing the World Trade Center garage at 350 Figueroa? I think a 400-600ft tower would look really nice there.

The Circa twins looks so stumpy... I don't know why. Maybe it is how the towers are setback from the podium? I know they are not really short but they just look short in photos.

It's the podium. If the towers went uninterrupted all the way to street level, they would appear much taller and slimmer.
