When it comes to buildings, I agree Toronto has a greater share of tacky/boring glass boxes. Its unfortunate but also important to not paint the entire city with that brush. There have been some solid high quality and or very unique towers come out of the recent boom including: One Bloor East, Four Seasons, ICE Towers, Harbour Plaza Towers, Theatre Park, the new Delta Hotel.

And there some pretty awesome towers under construction as we speak that should turn out quite well: The One, CIBC Square, Wellesley On The Park, and Massey Tower to name a few. We are also starting to get some great proposals like the Mirvish Towers, One Yonge Development, The Well, and many more.

Give Toronto time, it's still growing very fast. I would tend to agree that there are too many mediocre glass boxes, but there is some promise on the horizon.

Your affirmation is very good and true. I agree with what you said.

I do find it kinda funny how people complain about under-destned subway stations, but also whinge about the cost of the new ones. That being said, Dupont station rules. It's very Montreal-esque

In terms of new buildings I think Toronto has actually come out pretty well during the boom. My anchor point is usually Chicago which has a ton of absolutely horrific new buildings, but has a few great ones people gravitate towards. Toronto is more in the middle, as it is with most things.

The Bloor Danforth stations were great. They just haven't been maintained. Clean and modern doesn't work with exposed conduit (for later additions like security cameras)

The last few years haven't been kind on eyesore containment in Toronto. They are rising all over downtown now. I feel we have dropped to Chicago's level.

Massey Tower looks like a totally different creature from that angle. When you look at it from the other side it looks like a different building lol.

Quick update on the #1 tower on this list; The One. Word from the inside is that sales are doing very well. It's been open to agents with clients for a while now and I was told that there only about one or two dozen units still up for grabs which would put this about 95% sold out. Two of the four $22 million penthouses have also been sold firm at this point. General public hours start in January but by that point there may not be any units available. Given the high price point of this tower (cheapest unit is $800,000) , and average price will probably be around $3 million, Id say its looking very good.

Boxy and simple, but the N/S indents with the fins add a very nice look and will be the lighting element.

Do the fins light up? otherwise they are too subtle to really add anything. I'm stoked for you guys getting such a massive building, it's just too bad it's so plain.

They are part of the building lighting elements, yes.

Yeah they light up.

It's going to look pretty good when all's said and done.

Stantec really needs the residential portion and lighting to offset the rather simple box below. I have faith it will come together as a single element that will look good, but the east elevation at the moment does indeed feel pretty bland.

Too plain is better than too busy. I'm not in love at all with Stantec's design, but being too plain is not really an issue with it in my view.
