This is Ottawa, and also Gatineau, and it was "co-ordinated" by the NCC, so I'm surprised it's still scheduled to be out before I start shopping for geriatric care.

Ha!!
I wonder how Gilligan's Island would have been different if the NCC had been involved? National consultation on how to build greige huts with landscaping in such a way as to inspire nationalism without aspiring to anything? I suspect the rescue party would have had difficulty landing as non-bus transportation uses on waterfront property are a no-go.

The island's logo would be thirteen coconuts in a circle, 10 of them whole and 3 split open. The Skipper would have to be bilingual, and since the Howells are likely from Rockcliffe Park, either "Gingembre" or "Marie-Anne" will have to represent Gatineau.

Gilligans Island / Île Gilligan was expropriated in 1966. All structures were demolished. Gilligans Island / Île Gilligan is held in trust for all Canadians as part of the nationally significant land mass. In order to make all Canadians feel welcome on Gilligans Island / Île Gilligan, the NCC will be installing 14 flagpoles to fly the national flag, and those of each province and territory.

Don't forget the scenic four-lane expressparkway circumnavigating the island (they close it on Sundays for cyclists!). Unfortunately you won't be able to use it because they've been spending the last 50 years studying where to build the bridge (ferries would detract from the natural setting).

Maybe Easter Island is what happens when a proto-NCC took control of government and outlawed everything that wasn't grass...

Mmmmm... greenspace!

I happened upon this today: The article itself isn't really relevant, just this last paragraph.

The transit divide

Ottawa Citizen, December 10, 2012

Quote:

[...]

Now, the best that can be expected is to smooth the transition from one transit system to another — whether that means using the train bridge to bring commuters to Ottawa, extending the O-Train across the river into Quebec, using an LRT station as a bus hub for Gatineau commuters, or continuing the system as it is now.

So it is a small, but positive, sign that Ottawa’s transit commission agreed Monday to “re-engage” a joint transit committee with representatives from Ottawa and Gatineau — one which has been dormant for two years.

Considering the NCC's track record, I would prefer not.

The best we can hope for is more Bixi bikes.

So January 2013 has come and gone, and, in a surprise to no one, the NCC's interprovincial transit study has still not seen the light of day.

Someone should write to the minister responsible. This is absurd.

Minister Baird has a refined appreciation for absurdity, so I'm not sure how much good it would do.

I hate to write this, but "in fairness" , the NCC is not the only public body in the region with a well-past due transit planning study underway. The City is something like two years past due on the Western LRT study.

Moreover, since both studies are being carried out by private sector consultants - and different ones at that - perhaps some of the blame lies there.

Solution; fixed price contract. This is what we are paying you, now go!

At least with the city, we get some updates once in a while.

Well, umm, actually we got an update of sorts last month from the NCC but we haven't heard anything on the Western LRT from the City since last May.
