i didnt know it was actually under construction. nice. wonder what they'll do to reconfigure OMC1 to reconfigure it once the control centre is moved to the new building.

The existing Control Room was built when the SkyTrain originally opened, and has become very crowded with the addition of the Millennium Line and Evergreen extension. There is no physical space in the room to accommodate the addition of Broadway, Langley, and OMC4 expansions. This is actually listed as one of the risks in the Broadway Subway plans, because they cannot do testing and commissioning without the new control centre.

As for the existing building at OMC1, I think they're planning to use it for additional offices and storage. They've been adding and extending some maintenance buildings at OMC1 as well, to accommodate the new 5-car Mark V trains, and I think that's led to some departments getting shuffled around to different spaces.

With the new maintenance building at OMC1 also nearing completion (if it isn't already) I've been assuming all the original structures will come down and replaced with more track and perhaps another maintenance shed. This probably wouldn't happen until OMC4 is complete so some maintenance can be shifted there while construction is underway.

They are 6 weeks behind schedule.

On another note that is a very high end cab with a full size mobile cab. very nice.

I just feel grateful the new train is finally coming to Vancouver.
Too bad it still has to go through months of testing and won't be in actual service until towards the end of 2024.

^ That's a charming graphic.

I'm a bit surprised that they didn't fully wrap the trains in protective film/plastic. A cross-country drive in winter conditions (such as they are) is going to put the nice clean cars through the wringer. Not just superficial dirt and grime, but actual damage from kicked up stones and the ingress of salty water spray that will find every gap, seam, and vent grill where it will freeze and heave. I wouldn't be a comfortable customer right now.

Good point, although it is possible that they held off on wrapping the train cars so that the photo would look better.

From some reason this brings back memories of that old school educational game I played at school where you drive a truck across the country. Sort of like oregon trail.

I don't believe previous cars have been wrapped for shipping.

Why? They're a vehicle, not delicate cargo. New Flyer drives their buses here for delivery.
