True, but keep in mind that the upcoming court battles will still be referring to "d Condo."

D Condo is so much better. IMO this is without question the nicest building in Winnipeg now, and think it deserves a signature name to really stand out, not just a forgettable address (that I'm sure many will confuse with 300 Assiniboine). It was a nice nod to Dubrovnik.

Curious to see if they do anything with the cinder wall, as I doubt another big building goes up right beside it for a loooong time.

Interesting, I have a totally opposite view. It looks like a spandrelly mess to me. Encroaches on the river way too far too. I like 300 Assiniboine much more.

I think 300 Assiniboine is amazing, I'm a big fan of the hydro building, I love the Inuit Art Centre addition to the WAG, I like the 300 Main proposal and I think True North Square has a lot of potential, though I'll reserve judgment on that for when it's built

Tell us more about what you like about 300 Ass. I kinda like it but I gather it's among the least popular high rises on this forum.

I like that it manages to look modern without relying on being all-glass. It kinda has that classic 60s modernist look to it, while still looking contemporary. I think it'll age very very well.

As nice as it is to have this building on Assiniboine along with Heritage Landing, it's hard not to wish that they were built a block north on Broadway... Heritage Landing on the vacant lot opposite Hotel Fort Garry, and d Condo on the vacant lot next to Subway. It would have had such an impact on the streetscape. I wonder when we'll ever see any sort of substantial development on Broadway again... it feels like one of the only streets in downtown Winnipeg that hasn't had a noticeable improvement of one kind or another over the last 10 years.

Yeah Broadway is interesting because there's actually been a lot of cosmetic building reno's, yet the city has let the street environment fall apart completely, and nothing new has gone up in ages. Yet it has the most potential of any street to be busy day and night.

That's what I mean, it's a pretty decent street and it wouldn't take all that much to make it even better. Yet all that's happened on Broadway in the last 20 years is a few reclads and the small Cambrian CU building. It's odd, considering how much has happened throughout the rest of downtown.

There's potential on Broadway with that wide boulevard for a Las Ramblas, Winnipeg Edition. Throw in some semi permanent food truck locations on a power grid (get rid of the loud generators), and use that subway lot as a mini Mercado de La Boqueria market space. Widen the boulevard by narrowing the existing sidewalks and make the boulevard the main daytime pedestrian path, closing the whole road at night like Las Ramblas. Pop up a couple stage spots and you've got a popular night gathering spot.
