"This conceptual project studies the redevelopment of a site in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. The project site is located north of St. Joseph’s Hospital, and there are several important structures occupying the block: the Church of the Ascension and its Parish Hall, as well as the home of Sir Fredrick Rastrick, a prominent 19th Century Hamilton architect. The redevelopment aims to preserve and respect the history of the site, while introducing 60,000sf of commercial space and 300 residential apartments." - svn-ap.com

Like some others said in the downtown thread, the tower is cool, but the demo of the historic homes on the north side of the property has me worried. I'd like to see some of the materiality from the demoed buildings be carried into the design of the tower. Brick and stone, rich materials.

Nice. The house on the corner with the dome used to be my ears, noses and throat specialist office, Dr. Kearns. The waiting area was in the dome area, glass all around, so it was cool. Glad they are keeping that building.

Minor point; The thread title says, "proposed" but this is just a concept. It reminds me of the concept o the 2 highrise buildings for Upper James and Stonechurch. It never really was proposed.

It's quite fetching. Heritage home issues aside, hopefully this does become a more definitive plan.

CaptainKirk summed it up pretty good, so don't be surprised if this is just a fluke of a "proposal"
