In a few words: I didn't even begin to do Cape Town the justice it deserves from a lens. However, that won't stop me from sharing what I did cover which is primarily Woodstock, City Centre and Bo Kaap.
I was there in spring of 2013. Hands down, one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. I'd live there in a heartbeat if it weren't for the social problems and high crime rate.
I stayed out in Rondebosch, btw, just below the U of Cape Town campus. Of all the places I've visited I think back to Cape Town the most and just hope that the country gets its problems figured out and everyone learns to co-exist.
Nice pictures! Some of the scenes remind me of a Caribbean place, or Australia. Not that I've been to those places anyway...
Funny you mention that. After visiting South Africa I started seeing similarities between there and Australian cities when watching Australian tv shows or seeing photos of Australia.
Cape Town actually reminds me of southern california. Many of its suburbs have a southern california look to them. Like Los Angeles, Cape Town also has many nodes. Beautiful city. Probably the only city in South Africa with a downtown that has achieved its full potential.
I'm going to guess we don't often see a lot of photos of Cape Town because walking around with a camera makes you a pronounced target. Chances are you won't get mugged but you could find yourself swarmed by street kids who are well versed at separating people from their belongings.
The time I spent there I never took the camera out in the inner city, it just wasn't worth the risk. I actually got pick pocketed despite dressing like a bum and nearly jumped on a metro train (thanks, random patrol cop!). Naturally I decided risking a $1000 camera wouldn't be a wise move.
Despite that I took lots of photos of the eastern countryside. I should post those.
