There should be a new hotel with the shovel in the ground before the end of the year in Hamilton. It is being built by a Toronto developer who wants to get into the Hamilton market and with a hotel chain that is not in Hamilton, but wants a presents in Hamilton. They want the shovel in the ground by the end of the year and be operational by the end of 2018.

I am not allowed to say who they are as they are going through the last hoops for the land. I have seen the site plan and proposed look of the building. The chain is a higher end chain. It will not be a large hotel, only 134 rooms and be only 5 stories. It will be built in the lower city east of Wellington.
When I am allowed to give any more info I will.
I know you can't say, but what you're describing sounds like an ALT Hotel.

"They want the shovel in the ground by the end of the year"
That's a pretty optimistic timeline. Let's hope the red tape at city hall doesn't get in their way.

The new hotel has been approved. It will be a Hyatt and will be built at McMaster Innovation Park. More details tomorrow.

I believe the city will come back with a report in september regarding the dc exemption extension.

Douglas was talking about how the hotel would cater to researchers and professionals associated with the MIP and university.

I have a feeling this hotel will be as uninteresting and isolated as the typical ones located by a highway exit.

Presumably a new hotel in the heart of downtown would not get the number of room-nights needed. Too few tourists and business people to support it.

From a very reliable source, ArcelorMittal Dofasco is look for a location for a new headquarters building. They are running out of space at their present location.

They could just add to the building at the current location. There is lots of room to expand it.

I see what you did there.
"Dofasco Tower" has a nice ring to it.

Tim Hortons opening up in Jackson Square right beside the Bay St entrance. Not sure if they're adding a second location or relocating the first.

I'm guessing it'll be a second location to relieve the crowds at the existing one, which they also renovated about 2 years ago or so.

I bet it's a strategic move to compete with the new Starbucks at York and Bay.
