September 21st - My photos

There's a whole lot of nothing going on at the office site, but at least there is some progress in the pit.

Why are they using those black panels in the pit verus just plywood sheets?

I think those leave a smoother surface on the concrete than plywood would. This is the underground parking and the concrete ceiling will be exposed, don't want wood-grain patterns being left.

And they're reusable, dramatically reducing construction waste associated with concrete formwork.

Isn't that drainage panning?

That's for drainage. It's a permeable layer for water to go around the outside of the final concrete. The stuff that's on that wall right now is shotcrete, which is generally just temporary support for the excavation, keeping the dirt from falling in the pit.

Edit: Nevemind, wrong black panels.

Office - Slow progress?

My photo - November 1st, 2017

Looks the office building has been converted into a pool for the future residential tower.

Lol! Or they got some new prime water frontage on the property so the prices of those condos are probably triple now!

Office tower is delayed slightly. Nothing major but they are obviously not progressing on the excavation right now. Should kick back up again soon.

I was thinking they would only start excavation of the office tower once One Burrard Place was builded up to grade (street level) for support. The distance between the two excavation is only an alleyway.

No That's not necessary. Remember dolce and vita for example. The rebar and shotcrete that's used to construct the walls are enough to support it. (Just based on my observations from other projects)

Looks like the office site has been cleared off now and is getting ready for excavation...

Looks like the pool has been drained and they've started digging again.
