Also, I think it's going next door at 5557 Dunbar. 5505 is a new place under construction and their retail is up for lease.

Word is that Uniqlo is aiming to open a downtown Vancouver store by spring 2018. If it's that soon, I don't see how it could be in the Pacific Centre rotunda development as that hasn't even started developing yet.

Any idea where else they might go into in downtown?

granville street just south of robson has loads of space. could kickstart that promised redevelopment. non of the empty spaces on robson street are big enough unless they go east of granville like the telus building?

The Granville 7 theatre location is probably the only big space,
but it's supposed to be redeveloped for office space instead, with only one level of retail at grade.

Or the old Tom Lee space - but that's even father off Robson.

Now Metrotown mall is king of everyday retail.

I actually see a second Uniqlo opening in Brentwood mall rather than downtown.

For those who have already been there, does the staff at the Metrotown Uniqlo shout, "WELCOME TO UNIQLO!" every few minutes like those stores in other cities around the world? My first experience was in a Kuala Lumpur store back in 2010.

When I was there the grand court section was empty and the only crowds I saw were upstairs outside the store. I'll probably go in and take a look next week, when hopefully things will have calmed down.

Yes, most staffs do that at the new store when I was checking out the merchandise this morning. same thing happen at Uniqlo store in Hong Kong.
I am not sure whether this is a Japanese style greeting customer as Muji staff do similar greeting.

I am inside uniqlo now. Yes staff does randomly yell out welcome to uniqlo.

No lineup to get inside the store at 3 pm. But constant stream of people.

Omg omg! I just visited the new UNIQLO! My life is now complete.

The only real comment I have is that they have the most open concept store front ofvany Metropolis store.

Lol! As long as they don't shout into my ears I'm all good. I will wait another couple of weeks to go there: just bought a hoodie at an empty store while in asia last week and therefore no urgency to be at a packed one just yet.

Sears Canada to ask court for permission to liquidate all remaining stores

Quote:
Sears Canada said Tuesday it plans to seek court approval to begin liquidation of all of its remaining stores and assets.

"Sears Canada, with the recommendation of its advisers and approval of the Monitor, FTI Consulting Inc., is seeking an order to commence a liquidation that would result in a wind-down of its business following court approval," Sears Canada said in a release.

...

Sears Canada said that if it gets court approval to begin the process, it expects that liquidation sales at its stores would start no earlier than Oct. 19 and continue for 10 to 14 weeks.

...

The company announced in June that it would be closing almost 60 stores. Last week, it received court approval to close 11 other stores.

I went to the one in Paris over the summer and walked away kind of "meh". The styles seemed kind of dull. I couldn't see any reason I'd shop there instead of Simons, which has more interesting stuff IMHO. If I wanted subdued, earnest outerwear I'd pay a bit more for Fjallraven quality.

its pretty basic, I like some of the collaborations uniqlo is known for and I like the simple dull look myself lol, I'm also a gap loyalist so its basically the same.

As for SEARS, wow, I wonder what will become of their metrotown space.

how many stores are there now in the LM?
Not including the already announced brentwod closure

Capilano mall
Guildford TC
Metrotown
Langley
Chilliwack

The only sears home that I can recall was in Langley and it became a Leons a while back. Oh and there was one in Richmond near IKEA.

I wonder if Sears (under the agreement with Concord) can assign its rights to the future department store space to another third party
(i.e. Simons or someone else (Ivanhoe Cambridge)?).

That central "Metrotown Centre" part of Metropolis will be devoid of 2 anchors. Weird.
