Hard Luck Canyon, in the near Whitecourt, Alberta. Just an hour's drive north west of Edmonton.

It is very odd to find a rocky canyon in the middle of Alberta!

Hard Luck Canyon and Whistler both look great. Love that road through the snow banks. That's how a few towns up north in this province looked this spring.

A few recent ones here. A reminder how steep it can be downtown. This backyard looks down at cross streets below.

I know! I just found out about that canyon a month ago. Whitecourt sits beside a couple of foothills, one of them is called Whitecourt Mountain. The hills are higher than the surrounding areas and the headwaters for some stream come from the hills. Hard Rock Canyon is the result of one of those streams. The rocks on the cliffs are sandstone so I am still puzzled as to how those hills were formed. Whitecourt is also where MacLeod and Athabasca Rivers meet.

Thanks for the Whistler update, Dwils01. I am heading there to do some hiking this coming weekend and it looks like I better prepare for seeing some snow eventhough it's almost August...

Whistler got almost 13 meters of snow last season, so it is no wonder...

I will never get tired of Newfoundland's cliffs. Most memorable part of my time there.

Ancient sea bed thrust up similar to the Rockies formation.

That photo of Whitecourt Mountain doesn't do it justice. Coming up 43 it is much more dramatic.

Drove down the Forestry Trunk road last week on my way back from Grande Prairie. I will post some shots later, but it is one of the more spectacular roads in the province. even though it is gravel, the road is in very good shape.

Thanks for posting, definitely a place to check out if I'm in the area!

Went camping at Silent Lake Provincial Park near Bancroft, ON.

The campground itself was spectacular

Third last picture could be any upland lake here. It's the most... that's here?... reaction I've had since Jeddy1989's pictures from Sweden.

Top-drawer photography, csbvan. The first two pics are especially stunning in their saturation and contrast.
