Looks Japanese to me. Not in a bad way, but it seems a lot of the Japanese buildings are somewhat retro/dated, but very refined and well-executed. This looks to be no exception.

A bit off topic, but what's up with the dearth of large skyscrapers in Tokyo? Is it some kind of retarded planning regulations or something? I know that land is among the most valuable on earth, so I'd think people would tend to use it as intensely as possible.

^yep earthquake height limits. Basically Tokyo has the biggest buildings in the world in terms of average floorspace, but they are all squat and hovering around the 4-500 ft mark, and 6-700ft mark above that.

Anywhere else such as NYC and Hong Kong and these buildings would be half as wide and twice as tall. If you read between the lines Tokyo would have most skyscrapers in the world if it wasn't for the zoning:

for example, the Ropponggi Hills complex has almost the same floorspace

^^ Also want to point out that that building is 238m/781ft tall 5th tallest in Tokyo if you dont include Tokyo Tower. Not nearly as short as it appears, each floor plate is massive and that’s why it’s one of the largest by volume office buildings in the world but a building that’s not very well known, that tends to be very common here.

Back on subject! This thing is growing really fast! I’m beyond shocked how fast its going, hopefully I’ll be able to spot it from my window at work soon
