The pace is very frustrating. After being able to perceive some progress, things seem to have slowed to a crawl again. There must be immense logistical problems. To my untrained eye it looks like they're coming up against a big piece of foundation around the middle of the lot.

Thanks!

It looks like they are still jack-hammering the old foundations.

Does anyone know what that platform is used for?

Platform? After all of the excavation overruns the plans for the W/Element had to be scaled back a bit. That's the penthouse.

what's shown in the pictures above is simply a temporary stairwell for workers to get to the bottom safely. I guess that's a sign of progress.

All workers have to do is complete a death defying 20 foot long jump onto the platform, and then from there it is safe as can be to walk down those stairs.

Man I have been gone for weeks and this still has not made progress

There is simply no way they could have forecast all of this demo work. Hope they have enough (or new investors) to finish this project.

Hmmm. The platform doesn't seem to be connected to anything at the top. Maybe it will be soon?

Unless, of course, they're buying a stairway to heaven.

In the latest Pic; the NorthEast corner of the lot where the blue machine is.. Did they hit the very bottom of the old foundation. It looks like the ground is different from just dirt?

I walked by today and it did seem like more excavation was taking place on the western half of the site which is something I haven't noticed before. Maybe the hole is finally going to expand towards 15th street after being the same for the last couple of months.

Apparently they started digging in China and have been dismantling the old foundations from below.

You guys crack me up!

Thisisforreal, the pictures you post together from different dates are really great. Comparing the different dates is very interesting.

It's unbelievable how long it is taking to dig out this site.

Truly is incredible how slow this is moving.

For some perspective. On May 4th when they started digging here, over in the CITC thread we were still anxiously awaiting the arrival of the first tower crane. The CITC is now nearly 600 ft tall. This is still a hole in the ground... and not even a complete hole at that.

Whatever though, the wait will be worth it.
