Not going to lie, that looks like a pretty terrible place to live.

great thread, at least you were really down there in Mott Haven. Some of the best gems in the city are right here in this neighborhood but most people wouldn't know that, there's been so much thats been going on lately...from boricua village etc. good things happening for mott haven in the future.

I know the area well, passing though often to get to Yankee Stadium and the Courthouse from Manhattan, and I think you did a great job capturing it, and laying it out with your notes. Great!!

I passed through a majority of the Bronx after attending a Yankee game back in July, trust me it doesn't seem as doom and gloom as these pictures make it out to be. It was also during same time as they were about to shut down a hospital due to insufficient funding; maybe that's why the streets were so alive and energetic at the time? Lol. Great shots nonetheless!

That's a place I know very little about, save for maybe the Yankees. It does look pretty rough and those streets seem exceptionally wide. Some lovely looking rows, though. I'd definitely like to see more.

Really a wonderful photo thread. And far, far better than what I expected. Of course, I know that the South Bronx is nowhere near as wretched as it was in the 70s:

Loved it! Thanks for sharing. The commentary helped too.

Quite an eye opener for me. I haven't been to the South Bronx since the late 60s. Seems to be on the upswing as opposed to the slide it was taking back then. I may be mistaken, but is there an Italian neighborhood not far from where your tour occurred?
I also never thought about where the Grand Concourse ended, kinda with a wimper.

Great tour mrnyc, thanks.

The Arthur Avenue (Bronx Little Italy) is a ways north of these pics, more in the Central Bronx.

The pics depicted are deepest South Bronx, which is called Mott Haven. The area was Irish until the 1950's-1960's, and is now mostly Latino (mostly Puerto Rican and Mexican) with some blacks. There is also a small hipster zone in Mott Haven, mostly in industrial lofts.

Oh, and great pics of a rarely photographed neighborhood.
