tokyo: shinjuku west (tokyo metro govt offices bldg views)

tokyo: shinjuku west (tokyo metro govt offices bldg views)

this rather bland business and office tower neighborhood is quite a contrast from the much more colorful other areas of the shinjuku neighborhood, hang on for that later, but it has the twin-towered tokyo metropolitan government offices building observation deck views going for it - quite different from the roppongi mori tower views -- go early to beat the crowds -- cost = free!

they funnel you from shinjuku station thru a long claustrophobia inducing tunnel,
but at least there are shops and stuff along the way and it does open up eventually.

the groovy & spidery mode gakuen cocoon tower is by far the standout around here (2008)

somebody told me to go look up inside the sumitomo bldg because its hollow…

….mmmkay!

ok this is what we came for, right? (1991)

there are observation decks in each one of those towers

designed to resemble a 1980’s era computer chip

alright, alriiiight…time to go up already…!

sky tree guitar solo!

photographers take note that glare & tinted windows are definitely an issue here

*** i hope u enjoyed these hot august morning views from the westside of tokyo ***

i keep meaning to get photoshop but never really felt the need for it...until now lol!

and the answer to your question was quite a difficult detective story for this author to find out -- but it has a real urban development history flavor so check it out here (very short answer: its not st. francis after all!):
