St. George and Ann streets - 23s mixed use (Appealed)

This is south of CP tracks. These 6 homes are the last on the block since there is a few other shorter towers beside.

A big perk is that there is actually a grocery store nearby.

That and potential BRT.

Perfect location really, add there are already 15-18 story buildings in the area so should not be a problem from a zoning perspective.

Good logical project. Have to laugh at LFPress facebook comments. People all pissed that the project is geared towards students, and that its not affordable housing. Some people can never be happy...

This developer has a number of residential towers proposed but hasn't put a shovel in the ground on any of them.

True but they are all fairly current are they not? I think York is pretty serious, they are already building plenty in London so at least they are a realy company with the capabilities needed.

I hope to see a highrise start for them soon as they could rival Tricar in the city which is only a good thing.

Surprised to see the opposition from the heritage folks against this due to one of buildings once being a brewery.

York is proposing an amended plan reducing the height to 22 floors.

22 stories seems more reasonable for the area but the old historic house should be protected or moved in it's entirety. I wouldn't be so strongly against the project if it wasn't so bloody ugly.

This is one of those examples where we thank God for the NIMBYs. This was a monstrosity of a structure and we can all be grateful for it's demise.

I don't see how this a horrible development. The heritage NIMBYs using the Kent brewery buildings to stall this is a very flimsy argument. When the words London and brewery come up, no one ever thinks of the "historic Kent brewery". I've been in the buildings and there nothing worth saving. Dense infill projects like this are what the area needs!

Planning committee next week to look at revised zoning application. Staff report recommends denying the application. Will likely be voted down and goto full council. Expect York to appeal to OLT if council votes it down as this will get ugly.
