Would be funny if they converted it back to a Taco Cabana.

Without any context it's difficult to know what that means. Is the Shaggy poster saying a three-story retail building would be built there?

The poster just prior to Fico's post:

Saw Pollo Tropical across from the Zach was fenced in. What's the plan there? That lot has been in flux for years.

He corrected us today. He was talking about what is going where the old Artz Rib House was.

The place is completely fenced off as if it was being prepped for Demo, and they can still build the same apartment building that was previously proposed. But then again Taco Cabana turned into an urban campground after it was closed. So maybe they just want to keep the campers out until another lame fast food franchise signs on.

I saw that. It was parked there overnight right next to a food truck trying to shag some ACL Fest passerbys.

if this project is cancelled, I wonder what the deal is. Are the permits still open, or would they need to start over again?

I know that when I built my house, I had to drill core samples long before my plans were complete so the engineers could design my slab. So maybe they plan to go a totally new route? But shouldn't they have the previous core samples? I can't imagine the soil has changed too much since the previous plans or since Taco Cabana for that matter.

I'm hoping this one will start moving forward again soon... heard a rumor that there is a new development group backing the project.

You'd drill new cores if either (A) the development is under new ownership and they don't have access to those core logs or (B) they're planning to go higher and thus need deeper core samples.

This one is not dead. The developers filed to amend the PUD agreement to allow all of the parking to be underground and to allow for a hotel in addition to residential. The new project would consists of two building blocks in a U shape. Details are in the attachment to the ZC request.

Demo permit filed today. Looks like this is actually happening. Very interested to see new renderings now that there's a hotel component.

Good riddance Taco Cabana!

With this and the liklihood of something eating up the Schlotzky's site it's gonna be a nice little cooridoor.

They need to do something for pedestrian access on this stretch of Lamar. The River all the way to the Alamo Drafthouse is pretty bad for pedestrian safety. They should throw at least 2 of those pedestrian crosswalks in this area to slow down traffic.

Yup especially where the sidewalk becomes like 2 feet wide next to the concrete wall under those old condos just south of treadwell...and then it completely disappears for a short distance just south of that so you have to basically walk in the bike lane.

I'm a fan as well, love the lack of a drive-thru for the urban location, but anything with that much surface parking that close to town can be so much more...
