I think they're both going to end up being only 14-stories. That could be close to 200'. I haven't been able to find any renderings. Page Southerland Page is listed as the architect, but they don't feature them on their website.

The first office building and the huge 2,400 space parking garage on the States's North Austin campus are scheduled to break ground this December according to the TFC website.

Here's a 250 page PDF with everything anyone could want to know about the two new state office buildings. Oddly enough, the only thing missing are decent renderings. The buildings are named 1801 Congress and 1601 Congress:

https://impact.parsons.com/projects/...%20Volumes.pdf

1801 Congress - 14-stories, 222'

First Floor Texas Music Museum Layout:

1601 Congress - 12-stories, 211'

The Capitol Mall will be awesome:

That small structure in front of 1801 Congress near MLK is a 100-seat amphitheater with a lawn for additional seating. You can't have a proper music museum without a venue. A "spill out Cafe" will be adjacent to the amphitheater lawn. This is some excellent street interaction for state office building.
The mall construction is scheduled to start in 2019. This will be a cool area once the mall is finished.

Excited by all the development.!
Love the 'mall".
I wonder how they will get cars to the garage? The entrance is on 18th which is one way to the west.
Make 18th 2 way seems the only choice. Even with that there will have to be major signage as to how to find parking.
Unless.... the "Bus drop off" is intended to also be a way to get to the garage.?
Will be interesting to see what they do.

At least he planned for a little variability in height and set-backs, which probably contributed to a somewhat less claustrophobic feeling.

So they are fairly tall then. 222 and 211 would easily make them the tallest in the capitol complex, excluding the capitol, of course.

Well, that and everything in that picture is about 5x the size.

Grandiose just doesn't cover those plans.

The official groundbreaking should have been Tuesday. But I can't find any news about whether or not it happened. I would think the official start of a project that will include the Texas Music Museum would make the local news. But the only projects that tend to make the news are the ones that will probably piss off a few neighborhood activists.

This is another case of no follow up by local media. But item #9 in this Statesman blog post that includes a YouTube rant by a State Rep who really, really hates the idea, says this: "Status: Died in Calendars."

Houston is making a new push for the state music museum since the plans for one in Austin failed to get through the House.

Wow that's awful news. Get your shit together, Austin.

It's no secret that Austin lacks quality museums - and a music museum should be a no-brainer.

Really lame.

I think of this as a delay as opposed to Austin not getting a music museum. It's not that it didn't have enough support. It's just one of the many bills that wasn't considered a high enough priority to make it through our short Legislature session.
The building is still going up and as we can see in the plans, they had the museum space planned. The building will probably still not be open by the next Legislature session. If the museum is approved at that time it will almost be as if this delay didn't happen.

It appears the Phase I groundbreaking set for 05/31 happened because the TFC updated the project status indicating that excavation begins on 08/01.
