looks like they've installed 5-10 ~15' tall wooden poles on the eastern edge of the property along the Michigan Ave sidewalk. Don't recall them being there.

Are they going to put a sales center on the site for the next year and then break ground in 2018?

I think the sales center will be in 1006 S. Michigan, the corner building.

The base is beyond horrible. Beyond. Can't have that fronting GP on Mich Ave.

Not sure why you think the base is so hideous. It's not that different from the Chicago School buildings on either side... I imagine that's the whole point.

That side courtyard is kinda nice too, it'll make for a great restaurant space with some ivy on the blank wall to the north.

Seems to have been stolen from 340 on the Park. But I don't get it's purpose here either.

It would be great if Landmarks used their weight and resources to preserve all the historic building stock in River North on the chopping block rather than focusing on taking the fangs off designs like this and Essex.

I'm pretty sure 340 has them too. They run up the curved west face, but not on every floor.

Agreed, especially considering there are precious few intact tracts of remaining historic building stock.
Stretches of Clark, Hubbard and Grand come to mind.

That being said, I'm not sure if the Landmarks commission made this building bland enough yet. I won't be appeased until its a featureless, pasty white blob!
