My second trip to Dubai

Many people think Dubai is a city that is build by oil and

by slave labour.

They say Dubai is a plastic city.

And they say Dubai is destroying it`s own culture.

BUT, thats not true

Dubai is build by real people

for real people.

Dubai is not Las Vegas

Dubai is a rich city

Based on business...

....trade....

...and tourism.

It`s a city where people can have fun.

Or expirience the unique arabic culture.

Many people coming to Dubai want to work because they hope of a better tomorrow.

So sit down...

...relax....

.... and enjoy the show.

Because this will be a real big Dubai thread.

Theres only one more thing to say.

Thanks

I will continue.

The pics are from day one.

Some minutes before the landing. What you see is not Dubai but Sharjah.

My first impression outside of the terminal

Lucky shot from the bus. If you visit Dubai you will see many planes above the Creek and Deira.

This is where i took the following pictures. I started at the right side of the map. I marked the core(right side) and the SZR(left side) where the big skyscrapers are. Many people believing that the SZR is the core of Dubai. But that is false. It`s right now the edge of the city.

Dubai is green

I came to Dubai because of that monster. I wanted to see it under construction.

There is really much green in Dubai

I think i don`t need to write what building it is

Traffic flow on the SZR.

That`s me

Taken from the only pedestrian bridge over the SZR.

The suburbs of Dubai.

The worst thing in Dubai right now: Traffic jam.

Any questions?

No, i thought it`s my duty to fight against the wrong images many people have from Dubai.

I will post around 250 pics more, but that will take some time.

I have never had a wrong idea about Dubai,I've no idea about Dubai,at the end, and I've never listened things about Dubai, maybe because I don't travel a Lot.But,if U travel and U listen there are bad ideas in the world about Dubai and I don't travel and I don't listen things about Dubai, wrong or right, nevermind,it seems to me that U want to say that people who travel,so that knows Dubai, has a wrong opinions about Dubai.I think that the people that doesn't Knows Dubai doesn't think in absolutely about Dubai!

i agree. there's much more to dubai than the constructions. and just because it's growing fast doesn't mean that it doesn't have a culture of its own.

keep those pics coming, tom green. looking forward to seeing them

wow, the pictures are beautiful. Its interesting in the west we either know about Dubai or dont have a clue where it is at all. My impression of the city has always been of this sparkling new paradise in the sand, but the last shots show a more gritty portrail of the city. I think the contrast is interesting. In the same shot you see what really can only be discribed as a hovel and in the background the beautiful modern city center. Great job all around! Please post more if there are any.

You will see many, many pics more.

Day 2, all interesting pics in one post.
There are not many because the weather was a disaster.

Before i took the bus to the DUbai Marina, i explored the area around my hotel.

Before someone want to tell you that taking pics is forbidden you should be fast and take a pic.

Me again

At 10 o`clock in the morning i took the bus to the Dubai Marina.
The area on the left side i marked is the Dubai Marina. It`s far away from the Dubai core on the right side.

The skyline changed really much since my last visit.

The situation at the beach is worse than 2 years ago.

It was very hot on that day (around 38°C) and the view become worse and worse.

Would be nice to know how tall the JBR Towers are.

At that point i was hungry and it was too hot so i took a taxi to a much cooler place

Souvenirs at the Mall of the Emirates.

Silver asses

The very beginning of urbanity.

I took later a taxi back to the Marina. A massiv thunderstorm was approaching and the temperature dropped from 38 to 21 degrees. There was heavy rain and strong winds. My shelter was the Grosvenour House.

I could just take around 5 pics before they kicked me out because i was not a guest.

The damage caused by the strong winds.

I took the next pics from the parking part of the skyscraper on the right side.

After the first storm came a second big storm.

The rain was not too long but it rained very heavy.

The JLT

Th streets after the rain.

The end of day 2.

I wanted to take some nightpics but i rained the entire night.

New pix from the 3rd day.

Let`s call it the culture and urbanity day.
I started on the right side and i walked to the Jumeirah Mosque.

I like this skyscraper

A other mosque on my way.

From left to right.
The next worlds tallest hotel
Some time ago: the worlds tallest residential tower
The next worlds tallest structure.

The Jumeirah mosque.
According to my Dubai guide it`s the most beautiful mosque in Dubai

It`s possible to go inside, but if you wear like me short trousers you have to take such clothes

Inside the mosque

A nice woman explained many things to us.She also showed us how to wear the traditional clothes.

Next trip. I visited the real cre of Dubai.
I started from the top.

Many people call Dubai teh city of gold.

The Gold Souk

The Creek

The second part of my third day.

It starts where the first one ended.

Skyscrapers and trafic jam = Dubai

Something that many many people don`t know about Dubai.

The view was better in the afternoon but still not very good.

Did you know that Dubai can be that dense?

I met Altin and dubaiflo in the evening. The two Dubai experts underestemated the traffic jam in Dubai. :ohno:

My first night shot of the Burj Dubai.

I want to thank Altin and dubaiflo for meeting me. It was really nice.
I hope we can meet again someday.
You should visit this thread. There are many pics of the meeting.

Wow, just wow. I SO want to visit Dubai now
Those are some incredible pictures.

I love all those cranes- I could identify quite a few Potains and a few Liebherrs there.
Somebody needs to make a Dubai postcard- a closeup of a crane, and the caption "Official bird of Dubai"

You can use the metro in New York. Right now you can`t in Dubai.

Thanks for the comment and thanks to Amanita.
You have a great idea

Time for new pics.

I want to thank Altin again for driving me to the EMAAR Buisness Park.

This is where i walked.

I think this pic would be perfect for people who think Dubais skyscrapers are build by oil money.

There are just too many of them in Dubai.

The SZR

The next pics are taken from Palm Jumeirah.

Big construction.

Now it`s time to look up

The Dubai Marina.
