I'm assuming that's either SL Green, or disciples of the skyscraper gods, come to give their blessing.

Wtf was it though? It looks like a some kind of choir or ...satanic ritual!

^Probably a photo-op for the construction/design team. Deep in the pit, amongst the concrete and rebar of one of NYCs future signature towers, it could be one B.A. photo.
That banner leads me to believe that it's an SL Green event.

Maybe it is the yuppie branch of the Guilty Remnant.
Wearing black instead of white. In their nice straight lines they look like they are about ready to start doing jumping jacks. Exercise instead of smoking. Too bad it wasn't raining. And where were their hard hats. Somebody should call OSHA, if Orange hasn't dismantled it already.
when completed, perhaps it should be renamed One Vanderbuilt.
I am looking forward to seeing all these projects in a few week's time, when my family visits NYC. Airport transfers aside, I haven't been back since 1994.

Walking down into the #OVA foundation for our 20th anniversary company photo. Pretty cool to be a part of it, and to see what's on the other side of the scaffolding.

With the installation of its first steel column, One Vanderbilt, soon to be New York City’s second-tallest skyscraper, officially began vertical construction on Friday. Banker Steel Company provided the 26,000 tons of domestically milled and fabricated structural steel for development, which included the first 20-ton column installed. According to the team, the construction of One Vanderbilt is three weeks ahead of schedule. SL Green Realty and AECOM Tishman say the supertall skyscraper will add to the modernization of East Midtown’s business district, as the office building will boast column-free floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and 360-degree views.

^^Thanks for all the photos. That mobile crane location is insane. Looks like they had to improvise, being 3 weeks early. Time to bring out the Favelle Favcos!
I love this building desig;, looking forward to this one rising!

I assume that just means this building will top out before CPT and 111 W 57th?
No, the lazy media just gets it wrong. Sometimes they get it right by stating fully that it will be the second tallest office tower (that would be correct). Most of the time they are saying it because it would be true today, which would make it a correct statement, except it won't be completed today.
