Christmas in the Desert

While the open house for 58 West Hastings was going on in the atrium of Woodwards, outside the film Nicole (staring Anna Kendrick) was filming. In may be Halloween in Vancouver, but through the magic of Hollywood it was Christmas in Phoenix.

There's a big midway (with Ferris wheel) set up on the Vanier Park parking lot (near the water) for filming.

B.C. surpasses Ontario as top production locale for films, TV: report

Laura Kane, The Canadian Press

VANCOUVER -- British Columbia has surpassed Ontario as Canada's top locale for film and television production for the first time, a development that industry experts largely credit to the rise of streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

A new report by the Canadian Media Producers Association says the 2016-2017 fiscal year was strong for Canada overall, with production volume in the country reaching an all-time high of $8.38 billion.

B.C. has always been in the top three provinces for film and TV production, but last year its volume hit $2.991 billion, just ahead of Ontario with $2.977 billion. Quebec, with its thriving French-language industry, placed third with $1.754 billion.

I spotted these on my way to the 1810 Alberni Open House today. Seems like film shoots and building models go hand in hand.

You can always tell...

You can almost always spot that a film/tv series is done in Canada due to the yellow line markers in City Streets:

In Canada they're almost always single lined.

In the States they're almost always double lined.

Anyone know why the divergence in yellow line convention?

cost. Canada is cheaper when it comes to road infrastructure spending especially BC. 1 line is cheaper than 2

IIRC, in Europe, yellow lines indicate the outside of the right-most lane, and white lines are in the middle.

YMMV, so to speak.

Still lots going on in Vancouver through the winter months. Vancouver's balmy winters must be part of the reason why Vancouver tops Toronto consistently in the film industry.
