I always knew this one was going to be a nail biter! Now both of New York's residential supertalls are stuck in neutral.

We have different safety standards nowadays. Can you imagine if multiple incidents resulting in five deaths was a "good" safety record for highrise construction?
I'm sure the oligarchs/autocrats that will live here could care less. They certainly bought in Dubai & those projects are built with slave labor and, I would imagine, many deaths.

Hitting an adjacent building is rather serious. Hopefully this incident doesn't delay the project too much.

Generally hitting the building next door with construction materials is frowned upon.
When I click on that link, I don't see all that info... all I see is this:

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Does the black or wood decking going down to create the next floor get removed from underneath when the concrete floor is cured. I thought it would be.

sw5710,

Yes, the formwork (the black or wood decking) is removed. However, it is removed before the concrete has cured fully to its design strength, which is designed for at 28 days curing. Of course, it would not make sense or practical to wait that long before stripping the forms. Instead, the forms are stripped either the next day or two, and reshores (props) are placed below the newly cast slab, and for several floors below the new slab to continue to support the slab until design strength is attained. The forms that were stripped are removed and reused for forming the next floor above.

Thanks marcatio. Thats what i thought but was not so shure of. Some of the reshores can be seen on the 57th street cam i think. Do you know if both cranes go to the 1400' level or will just the one near 56th street.

4 more floors or so before this actually starts lift off. The transfer floor (at 7) to go from 4 columns to 6 on the north side is going to be both crazy, and quite a bit of additional work.

Impressive how it grows in a pretty fast pace!
I look forward to this summer... it would start to be one of the new landmark of New York.
