Great update Dave!
I like the photo from yesterday, of the guy driving by in the silver car. He has his hand in front of his face, to avoid being in the picture. LOL!

^ I saw that after I posted it, too. Just shy, paranoid, or doesn't want evidence of his presence there for some reason? Hmmm.

Family friendly section?

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sport...993/story.html

I would argue that our upper 200s are family friendly for couple games a year. However, we have the best University team, da Bears, in the country who rarely get more than 2/3 full and the Oil Kings who are an exceptional team to watch as well.

Gateway Casinos to go from eyesore to upscale with new entertainment facility

By Bill Mah, Edmonton Journal

EDMONTON - Tony Santo has heard people clamouring for the Baccarat Casino to be torn down because it’s an eyesore. He agrees.

Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Ltd., which owns the Baccarat, jokes he would be first in line to push the button blowing up the casino on 104th Avenue at 101st Street, just east of the new Rogers Place arena and the Baccarat’s eventual replacement, the Grand Villa Edmonton.

“We’re not proud of this place,” Santo said Wednesday during an interview in Baccarat’s lounge.

He politely declined to be photographed inside the Baccarat, saying the company wants to move on.

The 19-year-old business, which Burnaby-based Gateway acquired in 2002, has earned the reputation as an ugly building unsuited for such a high-profile downtown corner.

What makes things worse for Gateway is the Baccarat is losing money.

“We’re struggling here,” Santo said.

“We made a commitment to the city and to our employees to keep this property open and that’s what we’re doing, but we’re not making money here.”

A tale of two cities: Comparison between Edmonton's Rogers Place and proposed Calgary arena development

As Edmonton’s downtown arena takes shape following years of wrangling, Calgary is looking to create a new home for its own sports teams.

While the total cost of the CalgaryNext project outlined in August could be twice as much as Rogers Place, many of the arguments are the same heard in Edmonton.

Supporters say Calgary’s current facilities are outdated and can’t be properly upgraded, the development would revitalize surrounding property and using government money would boost future tax revenue while building a new fieldhouse the city needs.

Opponents call it corporate welfare, saying redevelopment in the area isn’t guaranteed and four of Canada’s NHL arenas were put up entirely with private funds.
