Emerald City: Another Seattle Thread

I decided to make a running thread companion to my Tacoma one in which to post my Seattle pictures. I know that there are lots of photos already circulating of Seattle, so I'll try to avoid being too redundant.

To get us started, here are some shots of 4th & Spring / Safeco Plaza that I took a while ago and pasted together for fun. It didn't really turn out as well as I had originally fantasized, but it I still kind of like it:

...and here is a french Navy ship that docked here (photos taken June 7, this year):

Cheers!

And... Cheers once again, everyone! I finally have some fresh Seattle pics to share, all of which I took just a few hours ago while wandering around this afternoon:

Ferries:

View of Aquarium and Downtown from the waterfront:

Cranes:

Looking North from the Docks:

Waterfront Apartments:

Sleeping Man and Wet Paint:

Children playing and a reading man:

Ladders:

A news helicopter passes:

Pedestrian Access route to the waterfront:

Fun aboard an Argosy cruise liner:

Starbucks at the World Trade Center:

Pedestrian overpass:

A man enjoys a smoke near the closed Bell St. Station:

The flag of Canada and the United States fly proudly together at Pier 66:

The West Seattle shore, and bird spikes:

Lunch Time:

Seattle Tower stands majestically in the shadow of more modern towers:

Fighter Jets pass by:

Parasailing over Puget Sound:

Evidence of Starbucks is everywhere:

Just an alley, nothing more and nothing less:

They did such a bad job putting together the residential tower at 2nd and Wall that the building is presently slated for vacation and subsequent piece-by-piece disassembly:

A man re-paints a previously yellow building yellower, in the foreground of a building with big-arse trees growing on top of it:

Channel 7 was interviewing a man inside the printer shop as I passed. I figured that one good shot deserved another, so I captured the moment:

Belltown:

The Space Needle, as if you didn't already see a photo of it before. Uh huh:

Nothing special here, other than visual evidence of the fact that Seattle does indeed have its very own "Wall Street":

The Monorail:

Keep watching...:

^^^ Indeed, it was built just nine years ago. Essentially, the tension cables which run throughout the concrete floors on all levels were exposed to the elements along their outer edge, allowing them to rust and/or be otherwise damaged. It is kinda scandalous when you think about it.

Great photos, I love the shot of DT Seattle and the forlorn looking French frigate hanging out.

Yeah, really too bad it came to that. Seems like it's been a problem around the neighborhood with other towers, according to that article. Wonder what'll be next for the site.

And are those plane for Sea Fair?

Those planes were not part of Sea Fair, and there were just the two of them. Fighter jets over downtown is a somewhat unordinary occurrence, which made me wonder if they were possibly the same two jets which were scrambled out of Portland during the President's visit on Tuesday.

^Probably not as one's an F-15 and the other is a F-22.

It's been a while since I've posted photos, and I want to get back into it... so here goes:

Underground tunnel connects Macy's, Westlake Center, and Nordstrom to streets above and the metro lines below:

My camera is low profile and quick enough to permit taking photos like this one without seeming overly conspicuous:

Cinerama was purchased by the employee of a prominent local company (I don't know if it was Microsoft, but it might have been) who promptly refurbished the inside. While the outside of the building is less than impressive, it is widely known as one of the highest end movie theatres around:

I do not know what is inside this tower, but I do know that it has earned a nickname as the "Darth Vader" building.

Classic cab brings us back to the 1930's...

...and homeless man sleeping on the ground by The Moore brings us back to 2011:

The flag of the European Union can be seen flying above this local restaurant:

This "underground" IGA is the only grocery store in the core of downtown Seattle, quite near the financial district:

Shades of gray more or less define Seattle:

Here we have a couple of shots of Benaroya Hall, home of the Seattle Symphony:

...and a shot right outside Bellevue Square (Not Seattle) just for the heck of it:

Emergency vehicles respond, as seen from the Macy's Skybridge:

I remember the first time that I entered Macy's and how impressed I was with its spacious first floor:

The Wall Street protesters, and other people protesting just about anything you can think of, appear in Seattle's Westlake Park:

It's a quiet day inside US Bank Centre, since this is a Sunday. For those of you who have watched the movie "Disclosure", Michael Douglas made his appearance in several parts of this building:

My favorite Starbucks location:

There is nothing more beautiful than the calm waters of Puget Sound; and when you put Seattle against them as a backdrop, it's... well, let's say Perfect.

...and the clouds start to come in. The photo below was taken just minutes after the photos above, showcasing Seattle's tendency for changing weather patterns:

The logo painted on the pier is supposed to be a stylized "e", symbolic of the "e" as it appears in the logo of the Seattle Port Authority. They painted it there, apparently, in an effort to impress tourists, or passing jetliners, or... I don't really know:

This rail line is nolonger used:

The rickety, but stylish Alaskan Way Viaduct:

People may complain about banks, but I seriously believe that we owe lots of amazing architecture to cities with prosperous financial districts. If there were no banks, that would almost certainly be a bad thing for skyscraper fans:

The plaza of One and Two Union Towers:

...and there are the One and Two Union Towers:

Remember my favorite Starbucks Location? It's right inside the building across the street to the left:

I was kind of afraid, for a moment, that the bored security guard inside those windows might come out and tell me not to take pictures... but he didn't:

Comic Convention happens here, once a year. This is also where the WTO protests happened, I believe:

And the sun sets on my last two pictures of the day:
