^^There are still plenty, quite possibly a majority, in the city who prefer the Parisian, Berliner, Roman or other low/midrise model of modernity and sophistication to that of New York, Chicago and Shanghai. In SF, each tower is a battle with these people but the city's cred as a cultural, dining and tech center and a city with as much history (dating to 1776 for Europeans and before for the natives) as any in North America has little to do with this. I'm on the side of the towers in the right parts of town where these are being built but I would not want to see them in North Beach or the Haight or Noe Valley either.

I don't think anyone thinks towers would look good in Noe Valley or North Beach. But I still think there are some areas that would lend nicely to supertalls. The intersection of Market/Van Ness is proposed to go as high as 600 ft (though I think it can host the city's 2nd super tall 1000+ ft building).

They will completely develop the Caltrain railyards at 4th and Townsend. i'd prefer something more like Hudson yards versus Avalon Mission Bay II which is the current proposal.

Whether you like Parisian/Berlin vs NYC, there's no arguing that a wall of cubic 200 ft buildings is the WORST of both worlds. See Mission Bay North today. Absolutely depressing.

Does anyone else see a bit of One WTC in that tower with that crane sticking out of it like spire?

Man it would be awesome if they added a 200 ft spire to this tower.

That and the other nighttime photo of SF are the most spectacular photos I have ever seen of The City!

Quite a view, my vision use to wander over to the Transamerica building
but now the skyline peak is centered on this tower.

no one loves The City more than I do, it's been my passion since i was 11, almost 50 years ago and I finally moved close to it but a resounding NO to this statement.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I know I'm biased, but I would likely nominate my hometown Philadelphia as the most historic city in North America. Other viable candidates would include Boston, Washington, New York, and Mexico City. At least, that's what I took off the top of my head. I admit to not knowing much about Mexico/Central America.

Either way, no one visits San Francisco for the historic sights like they do in Boston and Philly, they visit San Francisco for the landmarks and the activities on the water (or maybe not, I've never been there).

Back on topic though, the pic from the hill and that highway show just how drastically the skyline has changed. Salesforce Tower is dominating the skyline in a way that none of the other buildings, not even the Transamerica Pyramid, have done before.

I never had a problem sitting in that traffic because at least I got to enjoy the view of the skyline.

Yeah the way the crane is positioned gives us an idea of what it would look like if the tower had a spire.
