True, but many Canadians would be loath to admit it.

Pennsylvania looked almost certain to go to Clinton all evening, now has Trump ahead.

I see a lot of parallels between Donald Trump and Larry O'Brien being elected Mayor of Ottawa in 2006. He was also the outsider businessman who breached prosperity based on bringing business acumen to politics and offered catchy slogans that captured public interest.

Urban centres were counted early. Hillary's got nothing left in the state, it will likely go Trump.

Secession of US states would be useless as even in states that Clinton won, the rural counties went heavily for Trump.

CNN's two main guys Blitzer and King are very excitable. They keep interrupting each other and saying "let me finish" or "hold on just a sec".

And this is where the parallels continue. Trump doesn't fit in with the political class and is used to being in control yet he has to work with Congress and the Senate to move his agenda forward. Will he be willing and able to do this?

One thing I haven't seen posted here is the effects on world markets. Today the market had a big bounce because they thought Clinton was going to win. Now that it looks like Trump is going to win the Dow Futures market is currently down 800 points which is about 4.42%. Oil is down $1.57 (3.49%) which is not good for Canada. And apparently a Canadian immigration site has went down due to too much traffic.

Markets rebounded after brexit, they will rebound after this.

So there was Brexit. And now this.

An oldie but a goodie, one that's very appropriate.

Of course they'll rebound but the question is what will they do after that. If the Republicans win the presidency and Congress this will create total uncertainty for markets.

Congress is an unknown quantity at this point for Trump if he becomes president. Much of the party establishment did not support him but both chambers are likely to be controlled by the GOP.

Yes, the markets recovered from Brexit ** but ** it is like it went away. Just wait for the realities of negotiations to begin.
