It will be an isolated place to live until the second and third towers are built. Depends on when they are built.

The "yellow brick road" will be the walkway in and out.

^. Harry, walking down to Kinzie Street along the East side of the River would require Shorenstein to extend the Riverwalk. That's not part of the amended PD ordinance (although it should have been).

I don't think Shorenstein will do it on it's own. The Apparel Mart loading docks would be adversely affected.

Turning Carroll Street into Piper's Alley would kill off the idea of a Carroll Street Transitway. More commercial along Kinzie is certainly needed but is hard to provide because the Apparel Center and Merchandise Mart form a solid wall at street level.

I walk down along the river to Kinzie quite often (exit from behind the radio station). There will be vehicular access at a minimum, and for residents the access will be easy the lower walkway is already at that level.

Coming along. I think this will be a good one. There's not definitive confirmation on towers 2 and 3 yet, right? This will be really great if all 3 are built!

It'd be better if one large supertall were built. It's a great location to showcase something grand.

Today
My friend who works at Nuveen sent me some shots of the sites. I edited and stitched to try and make a pan.

It was nice enough to venture out during my lunch break today. Here is a different angle that gives you an idea of the southern view these units will have.

Those are great southern views but only like 10% of the resideance will have it, which would be expected of such a thin building on that small plot

The West Tower will make the site look lop-sided and it will appear to stand fairly isolated until the 2 other towers join it - and overwhelm it. It must be considered as a pretty minor part of a whole development.

Bring on the Glass

I work in River Northe Pointe, aka. the Apparel Mart, aka. the ugliest building in Chicago. We got this notice today:

Wolf Point Construction Activity - West Mart Drive
Please be advised that Wolf Point Developers will be placing a flatbed trailer full of glass at the far west end of West Mart Drive on Friday, January 23 and Monday, January 26. This work is expected to take place each day from approximately 7am to 5pm. Please use caution while entering and exiting River North Point from West Mart Drive on these days

Looks like windows are on their way!
