Antenna at 1 WTC not finalized? The design, yeah, but the antenna will be there.

That's not at all certain. There will definitely be a spire, one way or the other, but there has been no committment from the broadcasters as of yet. So the spire may or may not house the antenna.

A lovely shot from SSC, with One WTC under construction, and the Bank of America Tower to the left:

Probably not. The ESB usually shows up in those shots from the harbor...

Meanwhile, ESB gains a great new partner...

New Yorker's may have noticed the Empire State Building lit with green lights recently. Austin based Green Mountain Energy will be providing wind generated electricity to the Empire State Building from electricity generated in West Texas.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The nation's longest-serving green power marketer is based in Austin and now claims a reach all the way to the Big Apple, providing power to a famous landmark.

Green Mountain signed a two-year contract to provide wind power to the Empire State Building, making it the largest commercial purchaser of 100 percent renewable energy, according to GM's website. Staff will develop materials to educate the building's tenants and visitors about the benefits of choosing renewable energy.

“It was a natural fit for us to combine 100 percent clean energy with our nearly completed, ground breaking energy efficiency retrofit work,” said Anthony E. Malkin, president of Malkin Holdings, which supervises the Empire State Building. “Clean energy and our nearly 40 percent reduced consumption of watts and BTUs gives us a competitive advantage in attracting the best credit tenants at the best rents. Our program of innovation at the Empire State Building shows simple, replicable, non-proprietary steps for other landlords to follow to be more energy efficient, cleaner and greener.”

The landmark is expected to purchase nearly 55 million kilowatt hours of energy each year, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 100 million pounds.

Empire State Building to Offset 100% of its Energy Carbon Emissions

http://envirogy.ca/2011/01/06/empire...bon-emissions/

Quote:
New York City’s iconic symbol of American Commerce is in the process of a major Green overhaul. As part of this makeover, the tower’s manager, Anthony Malkin, recently announced a deal which will add Green Energy to their sustainability plan.

The tower has worked out a deal with carbon offset supplier Green Mountain Energy to buy 55 million kilowatt hours per year of renewable energy. The credits will be provided by NRG‘s New Jersey-based wind farm, and is enough energy to alleviate the carbon emissions of the ESB’s entire annual energy consumption. This of course means the energy powering the ESB is not necessarily from a renewable source, but does mean the carbon emissions resulting from the ESB’s energy use is being 100% offset.

The tower’s use of localized carbon credits (New Jersey) adds to the nobility of this process, and ensures the positive benefits of their project will be targeted to those the carbon emissions most effect.
