Still can't believe Huntsville will have a Topgolf and Dave and Busters. That's crazy considering the size of Huntsville. Now all we need is a Cheesecake Factory and everyone will be happy lol.

Not yet Trader Joe's would seal that for me.

Speaking of Dave and Buster's - Hope this won't be as short-lived as Veloce Indoor Speedway. MidCity keeps delivering! I'm so happy these developers have 0 connection to Mr McLain, who issued this statement in September 2014 "Constellation developers 'closer than we've ever been' to bringing $180M live-work-shop project to life in downtown Huntsville".

Veloce was successful, closed due to people embezzling money. Think they may have closed all their locations.

Constellation still has the same lonely tractor on the NE end of the land, tarp barrier, and pretty much that's it.
Construction should start soon

Wonder how many real developers would love to have this property?
Maybe that is what he is really waiting for, an offer he can't refuse.

if that is the case, it may take many many years before anything can happen on that site.

Mr McLain already lost the AC hotel, initially in the Constellation rendering, to the CityCentre development.

Several sources on this blog keep saying Constellation is fully funded and construction will start soon.

And yet, the "Something Exciting is coming" sign popped up around February last year!

I'm sure, apart from Mr McLain, nobody is happy to see this project dead.
I'm wondering why can't Mr McLain just admit that and sell it to the MidCity developers for example, who are not wasting any time here.

I'm not terribly shocked. The city can draw so many people from Decatur, The Shoals, Jackson County, Marshall County, etc... that's not even to mention the demographics of and disposable income of Huntsville residents... that's around 1 million residents in the region. Huntsville isn't just a little population center in the middle of nowhere.

That lot (corner Monroe/Clinton) is owned by a hotel development company.
It is a very small lot along with a small section over the parking garage owned by the city. Would think any hotel would need to be at least 8-10 floors and a substantial modification to that side of the parking deck.
Hampton Inn and Suites is planning a hotel downtown, that may be the location. When construction will start is not known at this time but spring summer could be possible.

While Hampton is not known foe architectural wonders they can be a little interesting.
Expect something like this maybe, this would be looking east with Clinton on the left and Monroe in the front.
This is all conjecture at this point, this image is from the hotel in Memphis.
Only thing is this is somewhat dated and there really would need to be a skywalk connected to the VBC.
When construction starts on the VBC next month will be interesting to see if they design for a future skywalk.

Reminds me of the Hampton Inn in Montgomery, which is an old building but situated on a small plot of land with no real parking.

City Hall Annex downtown to be demolished soon.
Three potential sites for the new City Hall complex were under consideration: City Hall’s existing location, the site of the municipal parking garage on Fountain Row and Gates Avenue, and the site of a city-owned parking lot on Clinton Avenue adjacent to Huntsville Utilities.
Of the three sites, GMC architects is recommending City Hall relocate across the street on the site of the municipal parking garage. The firm provided concept sketches of a modern five-story building to include 130,000 square feet of office space and a parking garage with more than 700 spaces.
“This is our first look at what is possible on this site and how it might function with our projected needs,” said Mayor Tommy Battle.

Read about it here and see renderings of possible solutions along with exciting expansion of Big Spring Park. This also follows the new Downtown Master Plan.

New Federal Courthouse downtown.
110 million included in the budget for a new Huntsville courthouse.
The building will be located on a site at the corner of Lowe and Gallatin, across the street from the Twickenham Square Publix and a block from the under construction City Centre.

Do you think that Madison County can negotiate a deal to move the Madison County Courthouse in the same building as the New Federal Courthouse?

Or at least move to the same property and be neighbors?

Thank you!

No..it will be a separate facility.
It should be an impressive building. Hopefully we will see renderings in a year or so, unless someone has been working on it already.
With the new City Hall and planned pedestrian mall down to Big Spring that will be right across the street from the county courthouse could create some interesting possibilities.

Toyota-Mazda and Alabama's booming auto industry by the numbers

5 million tons of concrete sure is a huge amount of concrete for this project. One cubic yard of concrete weighs approximately 3800 pounds and a concrete mixer carries 8 cubic yards per load works out to around 329,000 truck loads if my math is correct.

Impressive, over 2000 construction jobs will be created during the two year build up.
