The New Ideal Building in downtown Birmingham is set to be redeveloped into condominiums.

H2 Real Estate announced on Monday that 38 residential condos will be constructed in the former department store on Second Avenue next door to the Pizitz.

The project will consist of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom condominium units ranging in price from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$500,000s, the real estate company said.

Some historic details from the original building will be preserved, according to the company. Modern elements to the design will include private balconies overlooking the Pizitz courtyard. Parking and an outdoor terrace will accompany the project.

"Inventory downtown is low, making this is an ideal time to introduce new residential products to the market and the success of similar redevelopment projects in this area speaks to the demand for more living options downtown," said H2 Realtor Lynlee Hughes. "Modern-industrial style living is a popular desire amongst buyers in the current market and this project will fill the void of availability in that arena."
