Good coverage on Newark. One city in the NY metro that doesn't get as much coverage as it should. Some unique neighborhoods.

Great to see you love the place. Its addicting.

The miles start to add up. Walk till you have blisters. But even than, ya keep on walking.

Its one of the cheapest things you can do in the city. Just walking. You see so much and experience a ton of street life/energy. One doesn't need to spend a fortune in the city, just spend some calories taking in the sites.

I recommend walking down Broadway from 215 Street on your next visit. Take the subway to the 215th St station, and walk all the way down to Battery Park following the route. Just be prepared for the hills. Quite hilly in Washington Heights. Can see a lot of neighborhoods, plus its good excercise.

At some point, I lost myself in some kind of ultra-orthodox jewish neighborhood. I didn't take many pics of it because I felt somewhat uncomfortable. It was very different from all the other "ethnic" neighborhoods of New York in the sense that it felt like an enclave. I mean, you will find in NYC some neighborhoods which are predominantly Chinese, Russian or Puerto Rican, but they still remain diverse. It was not the case here, I was like the sole guy in sight who was not wearing this kind of strange hat (it's called a shtreimel, after somme google search), nor sidelocks on my head... and I felt that passers-by (who were numerous : streets were full of ultra-orthodox jewish families with many kids) were giving me weird looks.
