Wow. That's unfortunate. I mean, the new bridge looks nice, kinda overworked but nice. Its funny, that article was posted back in 2014 and most of the comments have the same exact opinion as myself. The car access needs to be taken away and the parking deck needs to be replaced with more attractions to keep it as a proper tourist trap.

I'm not sure if the city is running the pier or if its a private company, but whoever is running the pier needs to be slapped in the face. I mean, as of right now it seems like their mentality is "lets not upgrade anything, lets just leave it as is and let the money keep rolling in". Which is a stupid mistake, especially for a city like LA where there are better things to do.

If you want to see what a dying pier looks like. Take a trip down to the south bay to Redondo pier. HORRIBLE.

That's a great read, blackcat! The ways in which the Martin Expo Town Center has changed in response to public comments is quite a mixed bag. It's great that they pushed the developer to make the project mixed-use and to scrap the podium and elevated plaza. On the other hand, it's still disappointing that we've ended up with a smaller project, plus more parking than required. All in all, though I'll be happy to see it move forward.

I agree on both fronts. Views is an over hyped album. I think so far this year every album has been severely over hyped because the artists that are releasing them know that their albums are garbage.

But back on topic. I also agree with you about the Expo line. I think the expo will easily become one of the heaviest used rail lines in the county in the next few months. Only because of the fact that it links downtown with the ocean. People saying

"omg it takes 45 minutes to get from downtown to the ocean"

Well it really doesn't matter since not everyone will be riding its full length, but even so, it can easily take an hour to get from downtown to the ocean during peak traffic times and the hassle of having to fight for parking and pay 10+ for that parking and wasting gas is enough to ditch the car.

I agree, but I don't think that the Expo line will ever be upgraded to Heavy rail. But if it does perform well and is at capacity, what I see happening is there being a push to get the purple line extension to Santa Monica done, and maybe another rail proposed to help with the demand ( my wet dream being a union station/Sunset blvd/santa monica blvd line )

Regarding Expo/Bundy: the northeast corner of the intersection is a gas station, with a stripmall attached (with strip club, see image). That can also go, especially considering there's a gas station on the southeast corner.

Also of note, I was nearly killed by a speeding SUV this weekend while crossing Olympic to reach the train station. I did have time to scream an obscenity at them though, so that's something.

^^^ The only makeover I would accept from the Beverly Center is if it were completely torn down. Granted I understand they cant put the parking subterranean because of the active oil pumps/wells/tanks under it, but Jesus that thing is so monolithic and out of place for its surrounding area. Where were the Nimbys when they were actually needed.... oh wait. They were salivating at their new shopping palace.

FYI for any mid-city/BH/westsiders, the new drive thru Starbucks on S La Cienega (between 18th/Airdrome) is now open. Hit it on the way to way to work this morning.

As for the maintenance of rooftop plantings, I've never heard of lawn grass that requires mowing on a roof. It almost always going to be some sort of ground covering that requires minimal intervention besides irrigation.

I wouldn't say they're conducting one as much as their giving into the NIMBYs who are.

Sunset/Western looks great! In other news, drove by Wilshire and Crescent Heights last night and the Wells Fargo is completely gone and heavy grading equipment was there in force. Looks like we have another high rise imminent in the Wilshire Corridor.

Oh wow I'd forgotten about that one. Is its sister development at La Jolla/Wilshire U/C as well?

No, nothing is happening with the La Jolla site — still a parking lot. I'm going to swing by and get pics today.

The Mansfield. 7 stories. This one is never mentioned on SSP but it's going to help create a nice street wall along this stretch of Wilshire, east of Fairfax.

Wilshire + Rimpau Homes. 3 stories, but what do you expect in Hancock Park?

San Vicente / Gale. 3 story commercial on BH / LA border. This falls into the "better than nothing?" category.

Great photo update! I think you mean La Brea, though, not Fairfax. (I live in this area now)
