Winter in Asunción, Paraguay

Here are some pictures of my time in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, in July and August 2017.

El centro: the old, ramshackle downtown.

The former train station—the last train to operate in Paraguay was in 1999—sits at the center of town, next to Plaza Uruguaya:

The river ferries still chug on:

From the other side of the río Paraguay:

And back to downtown:

Palacio de López:

On board the colectivo:

To Villa Morra, the suburb of shopping malls and Sheratons:

A variation of it - it's called tereré, which is basically Paraguay's cold version of mate. It's also consumed in a different sort of cup, called a guampa.
