[Burnaby] Polaris | 36fl | Completed

Polaris will be a 36 storey tower on the northeast corner of Nelson and Imperial, developed by Transca (assuming Trans Canada) Developments. I saw a sign for it when I drove by it today. So far there are no renders of the building.

Company website here

http://transca.ca/projects/

Address here

4909 Imperial St, Burnaby, BC V5J 1C7

Saw the same sign. It's an interesting name, as there is already another tower named Polaris in Burnaby...

From Rennie's website:

Quote:
Coming soon, Polaris is poised to be a new beacon of urban living at Metrown. Overlooking Metrotown and Bonsor Park, Polaris is at the intersection of Imperial and Dunblane, featuring a collection of Studios, 1, 2, and 3-bedroom condos and townhomes.

On the exterior, Polaris will stand as a beaming architectural lantern with a dramatic LED lighting effect adding a sense of presence. Interiors will be equally stunning with a luxurious hotel-inspired lobby, thoughtful amenities featuring social indoor and outdoor spaces.

A connected location, Polaris is just steps from a SkyTrain station and the shimmering lifestyle of Metrotown.

Key Details

Developer: Transca Development
Architect(s): IBI Group Architects
Interior Designer(s): BYU Design
According to presale sites it'll have 313 units.

I spotted what looks like it could be work on the Polaris presentation center on Imperial east of Royal Oak.

I'm surprised they took that location rather than the more centrally located one next to the Domino's on Imperial that worked out great for both Amacon's 'Imperial' and Intergulf's 'The Park'.

Unless Amacon is still using it and still selling units.

Found what seems to be a preliminary (and rather low resolution) render of the building itself that will be at the NE corner of Nelson and Imperial.

It came from this site (below)
I don't read Chinese, but I guess it's just a marketing flyer sort of thing.

http://www.ryanzhangprec.com/#blogPage

Looks a lot more generic and blocky than I expected (or hoped for) for that L-shaped site.

Investment vehicles don't need to be pretty, especially if you won't live near it. Or the same country for that matter.

Heck, I'm sure even new brutalist towers would satisfy investors.

Just got a new (higher resolution) image of this project.
Moderators, please resize or move as necessary.
Am I reading it correctly (or counting it right), that there's going to be 45 floors (not counting the Penthouse/Crown)?

If true, that would make it the tallest building in that parcel of towers there, and quite possibly in all of Metrotown depending on how tall that crown is.

It just goes to show how much attention they pay advertising in English...

I didn't count myself, but even the ad talks about 37 floors, so I doubt the tower will be that tall or tallest in Metrotown...

The rendering clearly depicts 36 floors.

The only 'new' info I've found is a build date of 2020 listed on one of the presale sites.

I miscounted.

I counted on the higher resolution image - which shows what happens when you count and have to scroll and count.

But yeah, I guess 36 or 37 floors.

The corner "lantern" now seems to be an overused design element.

Driving through Metrotown recently I was thinking the same thing. It's better than nothing but some more creative lighting effects would be nice.

Have you visited the Polaris website?

The rendering they have there (which is an animated image) seems to suggest that those vertical elements they have on one side will be lit up and have some sort of strobe like-effect.
I don't know how accurate that is or will be faithfully retained in the finished building, but for as cool as that looks in that image I get the sense that after a while, it will be a freakin' headache having to live across the street from that.
