Probably taking HWY 12 down south of Steinbach to by Vassar/Piney? I know the few times I have visited relatives down there my cell has gone quiet which may be a good thing.

MTS has announced that they upgrading the Middlebro CDMA Cell tower to the 4G HSPA format this year but I don't know if it will be configured (more power) to fill in the missing gap above with 4G. I don't think MTS or anybody else will be upgrading the Manitoba CDMA networks.

Consulate here in works

Suarez, along with about six embassy staff, was in Winnipeg this week laying the groundwork for, among other things, a new consular office that country will be opening in Winnipeg later this year.

Do I detect a "Pun" in the title of this article? Bullish-Mexico-Manitoba

The Manitoba government is maintaining its support of the Composites Innovation Centre with a $2.88-million funding commitment for the next two years.

Since its establishment in 2003 the CIC has developed into Canada’s largest composite technology centre. It has initiated 346 projects with 119 industry partners and 40 government agencies. Among other things the CIC supported the development of new advanced commercial jet aircraft at Boeing Winnipeg including the new 787 Dreamliner and other advanced composite projects that created 500 jobs.

I'm ok with this announcement on funding from our Dear Leader Stalinger and the Provincial government. The Aerospace industry(one sector mentioned above), is a very strong industry in Manitoba's economy and needs to continue with new innovation and forward thinking to maintain it's competitive edge in a very difficult global market.

Build-first strategy bearing fruit
Local developers quickly leasing industrial space
By: Murray McNeill/Commercial Real Estate

It's taken a while, but their gamble is starting to pay off for several local developers who went ahead with the construction of new industrial buildings before any tenants had been signed up.

Saults & Pollard Real Estate Ltd. now has one confirmed 15,000-square-foot tenant for its 40,000-square-foot industrial complex which is under construction at 125 Fennel St. in Fort Garry.

First General Services (Winnipeg) Ltd. president and CEO Drew Bayes confirmed the property-damage restoration specialist is taking possession of its undeveloped space in the building on Sept. 1, and hopes to be moved in by early next year.

While the overall vacancy rate has been climbing over the last 18 months, Derrett said there's still a need for more new industrial space in Winnipeg. He said new entrants to the market still don't have enough new product to chose from, which has forced some to delay their arrival until suitable space becomes available.

Houston-based Goodman Manufacturing Group was the first tenant to lease space in the Olexa building. It moved into its nearly 12,000-square-foot space earlier this year.

Scaletta said Olexa officials are happy with the pace of leasing activity for the building, which is within the massive CentrePort Canada development site.

"It's just getting people to realize that CentrePort is actually a go. That you can lease space there," he added.

Minor news most have read already. But an idea on the commercial space market in Winnipeg.

Manitoba's inflation rate falls in June

Inflationary pressures continued to ease last month in Manitoba, with the province’s annual inflation rate falling to 1.5 per cent from 1.9 per cent in June.

That’s one of the lowest provincial inflation rates in the country, second only to B.C.’s 1.4 per cent, Statistics Canada data shows.

Not sure where to insert this thread but...one the biggest dissapointments I have with this city is the complete dissapearance of pinball arcades. Why I really would like to know. Regulations imposed by the city, lack of interest? You think a town of half million could support at LEAST one. Every major city still has them. You need to drive to winnipeg beach to visit the last true arcade in manitoba. I remember driving to magic land or mothers on boring nights to play pinball..but sadly..all gone. But what these "barcades" half pub, half arcade? Would this prove popular?

I'm sure it would, feel free to open one! There's 2 pinball machine in the Glenwood hockey rink (old st.vital), my kids and I play them when we are there. Modern hi tech video games have taken over from pinball machines.

Retro seems to be cool at the moment, but yeah, the old seedy downtown pinball arcade would not be a huge draw in this day and age. However, an upscale lounge or pub with vintage pinball machines could be successful. Do any of the bowling alleys or billiard rooms have attached arcades? Some used to back in the day. What is now Bourbon Street on Vaughan used to have an arcade. Haven't been there in years, so I don't know if it still does.

The old Ranch club down Pembina is turning into some kind of barcade. No pinball though and a terrible location.

Unfortunate, Pinball, other than a select niche, retro kinda after thought thing is dead. Looks good in your Man-Cave but not much else.

Technology and the availability of larger than life, HD, surround sound internet based gaming systems killed it.

Remember the North Side of Portage Ave? Pinball and Space invaders was so cool.

Good times. It's hard to believe you had to be 16 to enter an Arcade.

Never hit the location in Grand Marais but it was always cool hanging out in them.
Maybe if some crazy young business entrepreneur replaced the inner workings of the machine with a high def. video screen with controllers on the sides it might be a hit.

Then again I may be late to the party on this idea...

Bingo, See I was late to the party. Pretty cool concept and I hope it flies, but still a hard sell for mainstream locations? Are they marketing it yet or is this still a prototype beta kinda thing?

16, really? I remember going into the one in Grand Marais in my single digits. I'm still in my 20's so it was maybe 20 years ago now.

It was a City of Winnipeg rule. Arcades were absurdly over-regulated back in the 80s... I remember a couple of people wanted to set them up in the Garden City area back then and it was always met with fierce resistance from the neighbours who were concerned about the arcades becoming filled with juvenile delinquents who would smoke cigarettes, show off nose piercings and listen to devil music like that Motley Crue filth. You would shake your head if you saw what went on back then.

Bottom line, you had to be 16 to play unaccompanied or you had to get a little form filled in by your parents (I vaguely remember having one).
