Ithaca's Collegetown neighborhood

[Ex-Ithacan]

I made it up to Ithaca for the first time in two years. I spent a couple of days and decided to check out the town. This first tour is of my old neighborhood (Collegetown) which is located next to Cornell University.

Lots of construction going on since the city passed a new zoning code which allows more residential without requiring parking. It's getting taller and denser there.

Collegetown is the cluster of buildings in the top half of the picture just below the first line of buildings which are part of the Cornell campus:



The group of buildings at the bottom of this pic is the fairly new and nearly complete Collegetown Terrace:

















And across the street from the last pic was this rascal (I swear the same thing happened the last time I was here in 2015):

I recently spent a long weekend in Ithaca. It's a gem of a town. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful.

A true college town in every sense. I love the density that is happening here, although I am not a fan of the facades on Collegetown Terrace at all. I've seen other projects with a similar secondary / tertiary color scheme and they look just as bad. Who thought that forest green, eggplant purple, bright orange, and rust brown where a brilliant color combination? The proliferation of the metal panel is also exhausting. But, beggars can't be choosers, and it is a good dense development for the area.

@ deja vu, even though I had friends who lived in some of the old houses Collegetown Terrace replaced (many moons ago), the project did improve the area and upgrade the density.

A good friend of mine went to Cornell in the 70s (he's from the Bronx). He really loved the atmosphere of Ithaca.

Nice pictures! Tomkins County is the only county west of Syracuse that I have not been in in New York. One of these times I need to change that! Ithaca looks like a nice place to detour to for a day!
