Lightbulb TACOMA, WA + Why don't I try something different?

Tacoma (/təˈkoʊmə/, US dict: tə·kō′·mə) is a mid-sized urban port city in and the county seat of Pierce County, Washington, United States.[5] The city is on Washington's Puget Sound, 32 miles (51 km) southwest of Seattle, 31 miles (50 km) northeast of the state capital, Olympia, and 58 miles (93 km) northwest of Mount Rainier National Park. The population was 198,397, according to the 2010 census.[6] Tacoma is the second-largest city in the Puget Sound area and the third largest in the state. Tacoma also serves as the center of business activity for the South Sound region, which has a population of around 1 million people.

Thanks. However, credit goes to "giovanny sasso" as he did something like this as a part of one of his threads.

Cool post! Downtown Tacoma is definitely worth a stop off of I5 if you have time. Great bones, and a nice setting. I decided to go spend time there and check it out for the first time a couple months ago and was impressed. The drive up along Ruston Ave toward Point Defiance along the water is cool too.

Thanks. Definitely worth a visit if only to see what makes it different if not as "successful" and hip as the two bigger cities on I-5 in these parts.

I hear you can now walk/bike between the two via the waterfront. I want to try that next.

Bellevue is not bigger. Wealthier, by a long shot.

Downtown Bellevue is large because it's successful as the secondary business node for the whole Seattle metro, and is fairly close to the center of the metro.

Downtown Tacoma is more reflective of being a semi-independent city of its own, which happens to be enough in the Seattle orbit that it's partially a bedrooom area. Tacoma and its southern/eastern/western suburbs combined have a fraction of the office space they should have if fully independent.

I would agree. Tacoma has had to find some survival or success more on the blue-collar level and not necessarily at the Class A office level. That's actually kind of attractive and gives it a different feel than Bellevue, although Tacoma has its wealthy parts too.

Seems like Tacoma is the Oakland of the Seattle area.

Tacoma is much smaller than Oakland, but they are kind of similar to their larger neighboring cities. I think it's also at a distance from Seattle that's similar to SF/SJ. I might be wrong.

Other threads I've done on Tacoma or with some Tacoma.
