Ahhh Bocce Club. now that's a classic "Buffalo Style" pizza since 1946! greasy goodness! hopefully you had it from the Bailey Ave location.
For most of my time in college/uni in Buffalo, I lived down the street from the suburban location of another locally famous pizzeria, La Nova owned by "Goodfellas" (capish ) since 1957. You've never seen a busier pizzeria in your life. The original location made $7M/yr, now with 2 locations and mail order business who knows how much money they legally make.

Wooster, way off topic but where else did you get a chance to eat in Buffalo? and what did you like and not like?

Calgary's best mexican restaurant is in Red Deer. Los Palmeras ftw!

I have had two pizzas that were awesome in my whole life. One was made by a neighbor of mine when I lived in Adelaide Australia, he was recently moved from Milan and was trying to move to Canada. He made truly stellar pizza, usually with no more then 2 toppings and fairly thin. The crust on these pizzas was like a fine bread. They were amazing.

The second is quite a different variety but it is the pizza they make at the New York New York casino in Las Vegas in the food court/street area. Their pepperoni pizza is a grease dripping giant slice of heaven. The cheese on these pizzas is that type that will stretch for a mile, the sauce has alot of flavour and they don't skimp on it. The amount of jiucy greasy flavour in the pizza there is amazing. The crust was simply there to get the thing into your mouth, with the amount of flavour from the cheese, pepperorni, and sauce you could not taste the crust. I have never been to New York so I cannot say how authentic they are, but man if I could find a place that makes them like that in Calgary I would be hooked.

Makes sense. The best Mexican I ever ate in Alberta was at a restaurant in Brooks while I was doing field work out there. They had amazing mexican food, giant burritos and enchiladas smothered in cheese and sauce. I heard they are gone though.

LAS Palmeras and since you don't live in Calgary (right?) you don't know about the explosion of great, authentic Mexican happening here right now. It's a huge change from as little as two years ago and I'd say Calgary might have the best Mexican offerings in Canada.

I've said it a couple of times here but will say it again- if you live real Mex, you HAVE to get to Crossroads Market for El Mariachi Loco.

Just speaking for myself I've never raved about any Korean BBQ in Calgary. There's a horrible one at Mac Hall run by a mean Chinese lady and they don't even have gochujang, which would be like running a hot dog stand with no mustard.

It's not the most convenient option but for good cheap Korean, if you're at Market Mall check out the Kim Chi Korean Delight in their food court. It's much, much better than Koryo (which might be the place you're asking about but which isn't any place to rave about anymore).

That said, the way to think about Koryo isn't as a good example of Korean, but as the best example we have in Canada of a Hawaiian plate lunch place. Kalbi with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad? That's Hawaii on a plate.

Sweet, I will check it out next time I go. Nice to have a place that has its stuff together. The closest I got to real authentic taste was crossroads market and when Juans was open.

It was some Chicken bbq place that I thought was Korean based, know which one I'm talking about?

Edit. I was thinking about Olive Chicken, had to go back quite a few pages to find it.

Heck, I am almost tempted to try it myself because done right I think it would be really successful.
Of the places on the FFWD list my favourite is still Holy Smoke. I agree that Big D's is quite good but the combination of the great food and the amazing BBQ sauces at HS is the kicker for me. Sooo good.

Olive is deep fried chicken, not bbq, but it is really good!

This place is really good:
Bow Bulgogi House

Just to warn you, it is likely the only place in the city that you need a reservation for on all nights.

Innersoul, do you mean Sura on 4th st and 23rd ave NW? which btw is my personal favourite Korean restaurant in Calgary.

He must- there's a very cool new coffee/desert place on that strip. SurYa is nowhere near any 4th Street. Innersoul, get your head out of your ass!

The sushi places that replaced Gunkan on 4th St NW, called Shigatsu, is excellent!!

Really only ate in Buffalo twice - when I lived in Toronto, going to a Sabres-Flames game and another time on a drive on the way to Philly. Both times ate at Bocce Club! So, no other experience of Buffalo cuisine.

ah, too bad, although Bocce is a fine example of Buffalo Style pizza. While I was studying/living there they were undergoing great changes to the culinary scene. Like Calgary, the past few years has seen the opening of numerous better restaurants using better ingredients doing more adventurous things with food (unfortunately I haven't been back since Jan '09 but keep tabs thanks to numerous great blogs). hope you at least had a beer at Pearl St. before the Flames-Sabres games

It's not Calgary, but if you're driving through Golden soon. Check out the BBQ place right on the highway. Best brisket I've ever had. Blows the doors off of Holy Smoke. They have take out and are super fast.

I walked by today. Still not open. Downtown and the Beltline have a surprising lack of Vietnamese. (I'd love someone to prove me wrong because I often go home hungry and eat at my neighbourhood joint)
