Has there been any talk at all about adding a MetroRail station at that bend in the tracks? There is already a lot of residential development there and it's a little too far away from Plaza Saltillo to be a comfortable walk for a downtown trip.

I have not heard anything. Right now CapMetro has plans to expand the CC stop and add rail cars. The only other stop I've even heard rumors about is Hancock at IH-35, but nothing definite.

I read an article somewhere today that said there will be an orchard on site, and each house will have its own tree or trees. It was unclear to me how this would work.

Each house will get either one apple or persimmon tree. There's a reason apples come from Michigan and Washington. They do not do well here, and that's an understatement.

The "orchard" will be a couple rows of trees between the backs of the houses and the sidewalk on the Pleasant Valley side.

Nice to see some higher buildings being established in East Austin. If they go further east it will be harder because of all the sandy loam under the foundations.

This sounds like what was recently proposed, but failed, in SF's Mission district.

There are already a number of neighborhood comp plans in effect already and I worry that a new combined plan would take years to complete, making the length of the moratorium completely unreasonable.

This is the warehouse that will be demoed for this project. No great loss and you can see that it butts up to the East Side Station Apartment project currently under construction on the old El Lago tortilla factory site.

http://eastsidestationapts.com/

Judging by the rendering this project will be getting the Great Streets treatment, which will be nice since this is the current state of the sidewalks along Chicon.

One thing I'm not crazy about is that the entire stretch of 4th Street will be lined with upscale apartments and condos on the North side while the whole South side is is taken up by Chalmers Court, one of the nations oldest public housing projects.

To the North of the Eastside Station Apartments the Eastside Village is slowly coming along on the old Arnold Oil site.

A stone facade is going up on the office building, hopefully it will make it look less like a parking garage.

The elevator shaft gives you an idea of the overall height of this project.

I just noticed that a lot of these areas are updated on Google Earth street view also. Haven't checked much else in Austin, just glanced at these areas in East Austin.

This was the first I've heard of great streets treatment for Chicon, but I'm am happy to see this happening. The name of the 4th/Chicon project is befuddling.......

http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/bl...-unveiled.html

"The 130,000-square-foot residential condo and commercial project — dubbed Fourth & — will be built at Fourth and Chicon streets in a flourishing area of East Austin.
"We wanted to make a statement with the name — an open-ended statement," Clouse said in an exclusive interview with Austin Business Journal.
Fourth & could mean anything from Fourth & creativity to Fourth & sustainability — whatever anyone wants it to be, he said."

The building being remodeled in the last two pics (1802 E 6th) is Bridget Dunlap's newest Italian restaurant which is tentatively named "Burn".

This website for "Fourth&" confirms that it is indeed the same project.
