PALERMO and the Sicilian countryside

Last week I found myself on a work trip to Sicily. I had one night in Palermo, the island's largest city, and a bit of time to walk around the centre.

Palermo was a nice surprise. It's dirty, gritty and filled with motorcycle exhaust, but there's a certain enjoyable insouciance. Plus it's cheap and there's good coffee everywhere.

All of these photos were taken on a Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Most of my time in Sicily was spent in the countryside, where I had some business with a certain well-known organization. They gave me a pretty sweet ride.

Hope you enjoyed.

Fantastic photos! I found Palermo to be a pleasant surprise as well when I was there two months ago. The food, particularly the pastries, was some of the best I've ever had.

How far into the countryside did you go?

This thread is too legit. The street scenes and alley market photos are awesome. Your people shots are also well done. And the photos with the BMW...

"a certain well known organization" in the Sicilian countryside you say...
you're either making plans against the family or about to open up one of those fancy olive oil stores I keep hearing about.

enjoyed the pictures nevertheless.

Thanks for the pics, Kilgore!

Very nice people shots. I see many motorbikes or scooters in the streets, something similar in Spain. Much life in the streets. Your shots in the countryside are very nice too, like the BMW.

Excellent shots!

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

Those mountains make a spectacular backdrop to the city. Great pics.

Awesome pics!

Why does the BMW have a German numberplate?

Because it came straight from the factory.

Is that an 'urban meadow' I see? I didn't expect to see that in Italy.

Gorgeous countryside and a gritty city. I like.

It was a garbage-strewn vacant lot, though the tall grass disguised most of the rubbish. I guess a Mediterranean climate makes even urban blight look picturesque.

Oh, man. That was the shit. Reminds me of a European version of a North African city. Oran or Tunis or something. Also, your motorcycle theme rocks!

Great work! Nice to have a change of pace from your usual Asian threads, not saying those are much appreciated.
