Thanks for the clarification! It's good to know that this project is still very much alive.

I'm sorry to display my ignorance here, but what plot of land exactly will this be built on? I know its between St. Jacques, Notre Dame and Gauvin, but from the renders I can't quite see if it'll be knocking down a building on the built up block where they're building La Victoire, or if it'll be built on the relatively undeveloped lot with the lowrise building on it.

Clicking on the map at the top of this page shows two markers that would indicate the project will be on that undeveloped lot.

There is actually a building on site, occupied by Stationnement de Montreal that would need to be knocked down.

Also, I'm just speculating here, but it could be that DevMcGill secured a deal with the owner of the land for only a part of it, and now they want the whole of it, or there is a piece of land that is in the hand of another owner and they want to acquire it also.

According to Les Affaires, here is the latest render of this project, which is now called Place University Saint Jacques. It could be a temporary name or the name of the office part of the project, but I think it is sufficient to believe that "Univers" was dropped (at least on the western part of the lot), until we get more details (such as what happens with the eastern part of the lot, where Univers's first two towers were supposed to be built).

Les Affaires

By the way, I think this thread could be merged with this one, since both of them are actually about a different version of the same project.

Very intriguing transformation. Solidifies my belief that this project is lost, finished.

Haha, yeah, probably a good idea to merge with the 701 University thread and leave that thread where it is...

Seriously, there is something fishy with all these news coming out of Les Affaires today. First the new design of the Rio Tinto head office (which is exactly the same as the one from 2 years ago) now this. And Univers condos were supposed to be on the east side of this lot while these towers stand on the west side.

And on the les affaires's site, there is no mention on any of this stuff, no one puts a link with their source (maybe it comes form the printed magazine).

We'll wait and see...

I don't mind it, but I would prefer one taller tower instead of two. I hope they use black cladding/glass.

Word is that this project is dead.

Considering the website and the Facebook page are gone, and given the almost non-existent updates from the developers, I'm inclined to believe this.

Univers, RIP.

This thread is for the UniVers condo project only.

To keep things clear, I moved the posts about the office component to this thread:

Vieux-Montréal: un projet de 350 millions avorte

Publié le 03 décembre 2013 à 06h34 | Mis à jour à 06h34

Maxime Bergeron

Nice!

What are the realistic chances of this thing ever going up?

I'd say really low, especially with the Tour QdS, 900 Maisonneuve and 750 Peel proposals.

Unfortunate as I quite like the look of this. Simple but elegant.
