Carlisle, the Great Border City...

Here are my pics from the last few weeks that I've been working in Carlisle in Northern England. I've grown rather fond of it already, and for a population of 77,000 it feels a lot bigger than it is.

Lets have a look in the market.

Carlisle seems to have lots of nice little courtyards with shops and cafe's off the main bits which are fun to explore.

Some parts feel very Scottish, which makes sense as its only 10 minutes to the border.

An Eastern European food market with a Skoda parked outside, very appropiate I thought.

very interesting - and a place that we have never seen! looks comfortable, although the covered courts suggest the more typical englandy weather.

Wonderful tour. If only I could have it transplanted to the States I'd retire there. (the wife wouldn't move to the UK - too far from her family). Thanks for the pics sage.

Thanks loads for posting these of Carlisle. I was there last year and not a few days afterward, I accidently bloody deleted all my snaps of Carlisle and its surrounds.
God willing, I'll be there again next year to re-take snaps.
Yours brought back memories. Immediately east of the Castle is a possibly locally-made iron park bench, which caught my eye. Either late-Victorian or Edwardian.

I see what you mean, Ex. .. Carlisle is a great little city. Funnily I had thought of it, or St. Bees, to be good places to retire. The people of that part of England are friendly and easy to chat with. I'm going back, God willing.
