Those damn private enterprises! Amazing progress.

However, I can't help but feel bad for the poor schmuck(s) who just had his office window closed over, but that's New York...

Um, is it me or does that building not look like the renderings? Where is the dark glass shown on the rendering?

And the glass looks so nice and sheer in the renderings and looks so reflective in the photos NYGuy put up.

Please, please tell me the the glass on the base will be as nice and clear as shown on the renderings.

Because it doesn't appear dark in the photos doesn't mean it isn't. Reflections and appearance of glass on New York skyscrapers depends on both time and type of day.

For what its worth, here's the thread for that one.

Unfortunately, there haven't been updates on it in a long time, and may as well be a dead project.

^ Yeah, that was a nice, mid-sized tower. We'll see what happens. With new towers rising to the north and south, it's not bound to be inactive forever. It's a prime location.

Man, there are a lot of 500-600 footers going up around ESB these days.

The progress is great. That area is shaping up to be quite a cluster of rather tall buildings.

Yeah, it's funny because I was walking down the street the other day and saw a tower pocking up, under construction near the ESB and was shocked. Then I realized it was this one...

Midtown's Tower 111 Gets Up Close and Personal With Neighbors

February 2, 2010, by Joey

Architect Costas Kondylis's off-again, on-again 47-story Tower 111 is getting glassed on a dead stretch of Sixth Avenue just south of Herald Square, causing broker-blogger Andrew Fine to write, "While I might ordinarily criticize glass wall construction, maybe I'll give this a recession waver. After all, it's just good to see something going up these days!" We're thinking the folks (companies?) with windows just off Tower 111's south side might not agree with Fine's assessment.

This might be a silly question, but what do they do with the windows of that neighboring building that are right next to this one?

If you look closely you can see that they have been bricked in.

@scalziand, thanx for the thread... surely something will come...

i have maybe a silly question now with the subject of the windows facing that little tower... how do they will put the cladding on this new tower? is it going to be bricks or concret, i mean, no windows at all, and if they put some glass, how do they do it, seems so close... i know it could be 1mt between, but seems complicated to do the work.

I don't know the answer to your question, but it does bring up another one. What is the tallest party wall for two buildings in the city?

Carnegie Hall Tower and Metropolitan Tower is my guess, although I'm not sure if they touch.

Haven't given much thought to it myself, but they're on every block. Someone'll come up with it.

Good guess, but I don't think they touch. I know there was going to be one tower instead of two, but some dispute between the developers made the plan fell apart. My guess is something in the financial district.
