With regard to Slumberland, that is definitely Chicago's old Federal Building in the last picture, as the "Post Office"

New York from The Fifth Element has always been my favourite. I remember watching that movie as a kid and just being blown away by the cityscape. It's pure fantasy and I think that might be why it strikes me as so realistic, you know? I watch that film today and it has the same effect on me as it did back then, which says a lot.

Works of Otomo Katsuhiro (manga artist) have beautifully detailed, gritty, concrete architecture. I have an Akira artbook in front of me with lots of great examples but unfortunately I can't find much on Google.
