Great photos! Though, those structures you have labled as "Vegas Grand" at the beginning are actually the Grandview Las Vegas. Vegas Grand is an entirely different project.

This article is estimating the cost of the Plaza at $6-8 billion. I wonder if that is due to escalating costs or due to the size of the project they have planned.

Thanks for the photos Beets, shows some of the new residential density that we'll be seeing a lot more of in the future in other parts of the valley. Not sure of some of the designs. I thought Loft 5 was going to be more interesting than that, but now it just looks like a warehouse.

That Plaza sure is starting to get expensive, originally they said only $5 Billion, but now they're saying it might go up another $3 billion? They better have something good planned.

Where do you find 3 billion?

^^^

Are there any renderings yet?

Part of the cost might be due to the rising cost of construction. After Hurricane Katrina and Rita the construction cost across the country have skyrocketed. At the Southern Gaming Conference a couple of weeks ago a person building a casino on the Coast said that construction costs have gone up 72% since 2005 and that was across the board, not just for the coastal region.

Hopefully we are done seeing buildings with gold exteriors. The Plaza is suppose to be a replica of the original so thankfully no gold. Anyone else notice blue is the new gold? city center, palms place, sky, fontainebleau, panorma, cosmo, almost PH, not to mention a bunch of planned projects. I remember when the only blue building on the strip was imperial palace and thinking that the strip could use more blue...

Echelon

That big pile of light colored dirt is recycled Stardust.

Part of the Fontainebleau is already taller than the base of the Riviera next door.

You guys in Vegas have so much construction going on it's silly. I was wondering if the construction companies are mostly local or do they come from out of town. It just seems like the construction companies in Vegas would go bust after the boom slows down.

This town is always tearing down and rebuilding. By the time The Plaza is done what will be ready to come down? Who knows?!

It's not so much about a wave but more about how this town constantly evolves.

As far as I am concerned this wave has been going on since the 40's

Talking

Man, the West Coast sure is booming!

And I must say, i'm very impressed with the construction boom!
But since i'm one of the millions of Anglenos next door, I have to say that our city may soon have the potential demand and space to out-build you guys.
We ain't seen nothing yet!

The bottom line is that I LOVE Las Vegas!!!
But....L.A. all the way baby!

But back to the topic...I noticed on the Diagram that an unusually large amount of buildings are being cancelled lately.
Whats up with that?

I notice this too, but honestly, alot (not all, but alot) of the projects that get cancelled aren't up to par somewhere, and the way VA Gentleman said the amount of construction is silly....imagine if everything that was proposed actually got built. yikes As far as I'm concerned development in Vegas is on a steady, but not quite overdone pace. What gets filtered out somewhere along the way, obviously gets filtered out for a reason.

Most of the time those projects are never intended to get off the ground because the owner wants to increase the land value and resell.
