Wow, some really good-looking projects there. Glad to see someone's got a Taipei thread going!

Thanks for this great collection! Any chance that the JC Tower gets build in Dansui? I've never seen anything like this in Taiwan before, could be interesting.

This one is amazing! Where exactly will it be in relation to Taipei 101? When is it supposed to break ground?

Great thread, I'm glad I can finally contribute something after I finally found myself in Xinyi with a camera on a nice day.

Lihwa tower:

Xinyi Breeze (I think?)

Not much progress on what I think is the Cathay lot. The Shinkong hotel plot looks like it's in the same condition at the moment.

I like this building. The only bad thing is that from the back it reminds me of GIGANTIC a female reproductive part and the two long tubes remind me of some legs:

This building looks nothing like a penis and what kind of penis is pointy?
No, it looks good for Taiwan, doesn't look cheap like some buildings in Dubai.

Incredible city

Taipei is an incredible city. I recently visited and was amazed by Taipei 101. The views of it and from it were incredible. I'm looking forward to the future of sky scrapers in this Pacific town. Check out the 3d printed Taipei 101 I made too. Thanks

Cities’ rain drainage outdated: report
Taipei Times Excerpt
June 25, 2021

The Legislative Yuan’s Judiciary and Organic Laws and Statutes Bureau reiterated calls for improved rainwater drainage systems along city roads, which it had first suggested in a report last month.

The bureau released a report after torrential rains caused serious flooding along Section 5 of Taipei’s Zhongxiao E Road on June 4. It called for an amendment to municipal roadworks regulations that would require city construction bureaus to install improved drainage systems along major roads.

The issue was brought up again after Taipei and New Taipei City on Friday issued flood warnings due to continuous heavy rain from Typhoon In-Fa.

In the bureau’s latest report, released on July 8, it said that drains in Taipei are only able to handle up to 78.8mm of rain, which was greatly exceeded on June 4 when rainfall reached 129mm.

Cities nationwide should also improve their capacity for storing rainwater, given frequent water shortages in the past few years due to climate change, the report said.

Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom joins new undersea cable construction
Excerpt

Taipei, Aug. 16 (CNA) Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has signed an agreement to participate in a multilateral project to lay an undersea cable connecting several countries in Asia in a bid to deepen its international business presence, the company announced on Monday.

The 12,000-kilometer-long Apricot subsea cable system that will feature the state-of-the-art transmission technology will connect Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Guam, according to Chunghwa Telecom.

Slated to be launched in 2024, the Apricot cable system will have a capacity of more than 190 terabits per second to meet the growing demand for access to fifth-generation (5G) mobile broadband networks, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, cloud services and video conferencing.

The high-capacity undersea cable is expected to bring high-speed, reliable Internet to Taiwan as it enters the 5G era and will lay the cornerstone for advancing Chunghwa Telecom's cross-border telecom cooperation in the Asia Pacific region and enhance Taiwan's status in the region.

To improve Taiwan's global Internet security, Chunghwa Telecom has been strengthening its links with neighboring countries and important telecom markets in the region by participating in several international undersea cable projects.

It has invested in the construction of the Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) and the New Cross Pacific (NCP) submarine cable networks, which are both landed at Toucheng, Yilan City.

It is also participating in the construction of the Southeast Asia-Japan 2 (SJC2) undersea cable at Tamsui in New Taipei and Fangshan in Pingtung to enhance Taiwan's national network security. The SJC2 is expected to be completed by 2022.

Developers plan NT$150bn of projects in north
Taipei Times Excerpt
August 31, 2021

Developers in northern Taiwan plan to launch NT$150 billion (US$5.39 billion) of presale and newly completed housing projects for the fall season, as the market regains some confidence amid a declining number of COVID-19 cases in Taiwan, the Chinese-language My Housing Monthly said.

Sentiment improved after the number of locally transmitted COVID-19 cases dropped to single digits this month and the government said it was planning to issue stimulus vouchers in October to reinvigorate consumer activity.

“There are nine projects with total sales exceeding NT$10 billion, indicating an evident recovery in confidence on the part of developers,” wrote Ho Shih-chang (何世昌), research manager at the publication.

The trend suggests that the market would gain further steam toward the end of this year, the peak season for property transactions, Ho said.

Most of the large projects are in the greater Taipei area — four in Taipei and three in New Taipei City — as the region sheds the COVID-19 hotspot label, encouraging developers to launch new projects, My Housing Monthly said.

Courtyard by Marriott Taipei mulls conversion
Taipei Times Excerpt
Sep 2, 2021

Courtyard by Marriott Taipei (六福萬怡) in Taipei’s Nangang District (南港) is to suspend its operations next month as it mulls converting into a quarantine hotel, exhibition venue or offices to better utilize its space and increase revenue.

“The macro-environment is unfavorable for the hospitality industry and warrants a reassessment of space utilization to boost revenue,” the five-star hotel said.

The hotel in the same complex as the Nangang MRT and high-speed rail stations, as well as a shopping mall, was looking to attract domestic and foreign travelers doing business at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, but that aim has been foiled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
