If this development cycle is filling in the skylines of the Arts District and the western side of the Downtown Loop, can we hope that the next cycle will begin to push into Skid Row and the Fashion District (re: the southern part of the Downtown Loop)?

^Already in the last two months we have had three large buildings proposed for the Fashion Distirct. I have no doubt that this cycle won't end soon and those area do will be caught up with it.

I suppose Alameda is technically along the Fashion District's border (unless there are other developments I'm missing), but I mean deeper into the heart of the neighborhood...like between Los Angeles and Central streets.

They are 18 months from breaking ground. Just like they were 18 months from breaking ground 2 years ago. They have always been 18 months away. So just wait 18 more months.

What's this one? The one right next to Onni's Times development? I thought that was 30.

Tempe style Town Lake for DTLA?

In Tempe, Arizona near the ASU campus they've dammed the Salt River (or is it the Gila?) and created a lake and park. It is very popular, and all kinds of development is happening. Same thing with the town lake along the river in Austin. Or the San Antonio riverwalk. Maybe both a riverwalk & lake. Flood waters could be captured, and the excess carried away in a bypass (assuming the rains return, which they will). L.A. once had a river, before it was channelized in concrete after the floods in the late 1930s. They say it was quite lush, with trees and even steelhead salmon. A restored river, and a park with a lake would be great.

Plans Submitted for 42-Storey Downtown Los Angeles Tower
Quote:
Mere footsteps away from the supertall Wilshire Grand Center, now the tallest building in Los Angeles, a downtown surface parking lot is destined to be replaced by another highrise. Plans have been submitted to the city by developer Mitsui Fudosan America and architect Johnson Fain for a 42-storey tower preliminarily named 8th & Fig after the intersecting streets bounding the property.

I really wish it was 2 towers or at the very least on the corner of the property but it's a welcomed addition.

Just for fun, this is an excerpt from an article about what the settlers of LA noticed about the natural setting of the basin:

Quote:
When the settlers arrived, the Los Angeles floodplain was heavily wooded with willows and oaks. The Los Angeles river flowed all year. Wildlife was plentiful, including deer, antelope, and black bears, even an occasional grizzly bear. There were abundant wetlands and swamps. Steelhead and salmon swam the rivers.

Anyone have (or know of) a depiction of the DTLA skyline 5-10 years out that's up to date with all the newest proposals? Would love to see it.

I can see DTLAs skyline growing in all directions with the special exception of east into skid row. Unless a couple dozen super-concentrated homeless services are magically relocated to politically impossible locations thoughtout the county, that tent city isn't going anywhere. Who would ever wanna build there to attract businesses, families, ground floor retail, honestly anything? Homelessness is a part of urbanity but DTLA is just a different beast and skid row specifically doesn't even belong in a discussion outside of the developing world.

I'd love to hear a viable scenario where skid row is no more.

I think this is the best one, but it's not much. Oceanwide released a render of their project that included Metropolis, Wilshire Grand, and Circa.
