I grabbed some frame shots from the 1970 film "Festival Express", they filmed a bit of the city from the CN train they were on, heading into Winnipeg from Toronto. Not much to see and the video quality was not that great ( probably 16mm ) but thought I would put them here for prosperity.

Not sure if that was Thistle Lane, or if it was a bit closer to the photographer. It is probably still a legal street. You can just see the house on my 1928 photo, along the right margin near the bottom:

Looks like you're right. It looks like this rail line is where the division fence between two surface parking lots on Westbrook Street are today.

That aerial photo still blows my mind, and I am now going to pour myself a stiff drink and cry.

Thistle lane is that spur line south of the Codville warehouse, right? I remember it was there 20 years ago ... maybe it's never been legally closed.

those are the two buildings they removed in '96 when they were hastily rushing to build a new arena for the jets....the site got cleared....some site prep done....we know the rest.

The loss of the Tribune in 1980 and the very painful recession of 1980-81 compounded the problem.
I think you are probably right. As a glazier (Pilkingtons) in the 70s and 80s, a crew of two (sometimes more) were busy doing service work downtown almost the whole week. After killing ourselves when some nut thought building Eaton Place and St. Vital Mall at about the same time was a fine idea, we were downtown less and less after that. Some of this could be a result of new work requiring tempered glass but I suspect more that downtown Winnipeg began to spiral into a non destination and a who cares attitude.

Nice. There are lots of bottle collectors who might be interested. Looks like a bunch of Drewry's beer bottles there.

Rupert Street Police Station

Hi. The aerial photo from 1928 indicating demolished buildings is incredible.
I'm trying to find a photo of the old Rupert Street Police Station. I'm assuming it was demolished as some point to make way for the Planetarium. Can anyone help direct me to where I might find one online?
